On September 9, 2012, Saigon Jokers became the representative of Southeast Asia to advance to the 2012 World Championship. Here, the “Vietnamese clowns” stopped at the top 9-10 and won the top spot. won a prize of $50,000.
2013 – Full Louis won the tournament with the biggest prize money in League of Legends at that time
Graves won the Quadra Kill and led Full Louis to the 2013 Legendary Journey championship.
2013 is considered a time of brilliant development of League of Legends in Vietnam when consecutively huge-scale tournaments appeared in both prizes, the number of spectators and the participating teams. In particular, Full Louis’ prize of 200 million is also considered a huge number with a new game launched in Vietnam like League of Legends.
As for the “content” in the game, this is also the year of the launch of very attractive things in League of Legends such as the Howling Abyss map (ARAM) and even “general Yasuo”.
2014 – Summoner’s Rift “changes form”
In 2014, League of Legends underwent a “major overhaul” with a new Summoner’s Rift map with the appearance of the first Elemental Dragons.
In the Esports community, “Teemo Cup” tournaments are springing up like mushrooms with attractive prizes in cash, RP and especially tickets to the VCSB qualifiers.
2015 – Saigon Fantastic Five win GPL Summer
SF5 won an impressive victory at the GPL and created momentum for VCS to rise to the “out of submission” of the GPL.
Saigon Fantastic Five won the GPL Spring 2015 championship, which is considered one of the most memorable milestones in the history of Vietnamese League of Legends – when the VCS teams gradually rose and “outed” the GPL tournament.
At the end of 2015, Rift Herald also appeared in League of Legends, this is a big change that has directly affected the tactical operation of League of Legends teams.
2016 – Saigon Jokers dominate Vietnam League of Legends
Saigon Jokers won the GPL Summer 2016 championship, and completely dominated the domestic tournaments.
2017 – GIGABYTE Marines made an indelible mark at MSI and Worlds
The ranking mode of League of Legends “closer” to professional competition with 10 bans. At the end of 2017, the Recombination Gem also replaced the old rune system, which has completely changed the meta as well as the use of champions in League of Legends.
In the international arena, GIGABYTE Marines (predecessor of GAM Esports) had impressive performances at MSI and Worlds 2017. In which, it is difficult for any LoL fan to forget the Nocturne “hack level” and Levi’s “divine” dragon robbery.

2018 – EVS Warzone made a shocking statement at MSI
After Vietnam’s impressive performance at international tournaments in 2017, Vietnam and VCS were officially separated from the GPL and became an independent region in the world map of League of Legends. As a result, VCS has a separate competition from the GPL.
EVS Warzone had a shocking interview in the League of Legends community.
Winning a dramatic victory over GAM at VCS Spring 2018, EVOS Esports became the representative of Vietnam at MSI 2018. At this tournament, EVS Warzone had a “lifetime” interview when saying: “I will *** afraid of anyone.” – the answer surprised the Vietnamese LoL community.
2019 – Phong Vu Buffalo reached the top 6 at MSI
MSI 2019 has brought many of the world’s top stars of LoL to Vietnam.
MSI was first held in Vietnam, the tournament has helped the Vietnamese LoL community become much more popular in the eyes of international friends. Not only that, Phong Vu Buffalo’s great performance also helped VCS increase the number of slots for Worlds to 2 (1 group stage and 1 warmup round).
In the Summoner’s Rift map, the gameplay has also had certain changes because of the appearance of the Elemental Map.
2020 – Team Flash 2 times missed an appointment in the international arena
Unlike the current “flying color” from VCS, 2020 is a brilliant year for Team Flash.
2020 is probably the most unfortunate year of Vietnamese League of Legends, because Team Flash with “top” performance won the VCS championship in both spring and summer but could not attend MSI or Worlds.
Many fans believe that at this moment, both meta and performance are supporting Team Flash’s players with 2 times defeating GAM Esports in the VCS final. Therefore, not only the players, but also the fans and the judges are very sorry that the VCS champion cannot compete in the international arena.
2021 – SBTC Esports “riots VCS” with Zeros’ “Global Ban” penalty
The arrival of the new equipment system has completely changed the meta in League of Legends.
In the Esports arena, VCS also became more bustling with the presence of SBTC Esports. However, this also makes the tournament more “unstable” with a series of dramas, “sanction notices” revolving around SBTC players such as “SofS”, Venus, Dia1, Yijin,… and especially is Zeros’ shocking “Global Ban” punishment.
2022 – Vietnamese League of Legends won the SEA Games 31
In the first half of 2022, the most memorable thing in the Vietnamese LoL community is the achievements that GAM Esports and Saigon Buffalo have achieved. In particular, the defending champion VCS – GAM Esports won the Gold Medal of LoL at SEA Games 31 with an undefeated record.
As for the VCS runner-up – Saigon Buffalo had an impressive performance when entering the top 6 of MSI 2022, even leaving a lot of impressions in the eyes of international friends.
In addition, GG Stadium also made many fans sad when it closed after 5 years of operation in Vietnam.
