Although the story is Par’s original work, it was made in collaboration with Taejun Pak on the plot and illustrations. The first chapter of the webtoon series was published digitally over eight years ago on the leading Webtoon streaming site, Naver. Later, South Korean animation studio Mir also adapted the anime, which streamed globally on Netflix last month.
Although Webtoon has been published for quite some time, recently it has attracted millions of fans from all over the world. Up to now, the manga’s official page on WebToon has more than 679.9 million views.
All about the plot of Lookism
The WebToon series, Lookism, is about a guy who is seen as a loser, fat, and ugly by society’s standards. He was bullied and bullied a lot in high school, but then he woke up in the body of another guy who was extremely attractive, very handsome and fit. So that just made him suddenly really popular with everyone.
Because of this, he makes new friends and everything seems to be going very well for him. I particularly didn’t like the concept at first, and that’s why I dropped it after reading the first ten chapters.
To me, it seemed a bit shallow and I didn’t particularly like what it portrayed, but in the end I decided and picked it up again, and now, it’s probably one of my favorite webtoons. me all the time. This is not only my story but also that of many fans around the world.
Although it depicts a very unrealistic stereotype where beautiful people get everything they want in the world, after a while it will take its turn, as the protagonist begins to experience that attraction. Lead is not all it has to be. . He started fighting, and people started to dislike him because he was attractive.
Then you get this amazing story which really shows life from the perspective of two different people. I can say that having these characters with two different bodies makes for a really interesting concept for a main character. This is because it is easy for him to contact anyone depending on what body he is in.
It only focuses on that premise at the start of WebToon, it seems very superficial, so I understand why many fans dropped it at first. But that’s definitely one aspect of this manhwa. It’s an extremely long story with over 430 Chapters so far.
But once you’ve read it, it gets better and better. There’s a lot of gang wars and internal struggles between the characters, which is always really fun to watch. It has a great action scene, great dynamics and an artistic perspective.
While at first, yes, the characters seem pretty shallow, it’s clear that as time goes on you’ll get to know more about their backstory and really fall in love with them all. Even the villains you don’t really like, and that’s their purpose. You end up even liking them as well.
What you really end up with is that this amazing story is real and gritty with all the emotions in it. There are so many different characters that have so many different life struggles and just different kinds of problems, so it’s easy to appeal to a wider audience.
I’m really surprised that the author hasn’t run out of ideas, because there are so many different things about content and stories. Even the supporting characters have their own little stories, so I feel like each character is pretty well developed.
Some characters clearly have more screen time than others, but overall, I think most of them are pretty well represented. Like even the little stories that appear at the beginning of manhwa seem to go nowhere at first, but then they come back and play an important role in the story. It can be said that overall, this manga is really interesting, but it also has some unsatisfactory points.
With the amount of content in this manhwa, of course, there are some parts that are better than others and some parts can actually be dropped, but everything fits together. The structure of Webtoon really annoyed the audience at the beginning, but in the end they really liked it; it’s kind of pointless, in a way.
Why are side stories important in Lookism?
Instead of just having an overarching, long, and engaging plot as it is, it just follows the small touchpoints and different plots from different characters at random points in the manhwa, and then it will go back to the main story at many times, which at first just felt disorienting but it also keeps you reading it.
You start by reading the main story, but then it goes in a different direction and another story about a different character, and while that’s great, you almost feel like finding out what’s going on. is happening in the main story, so you just have to keep reading it.
There’s definitely a lot of excitement if you’re into the genre of stories that have a lot of gang involvement and a lot of violence and fighting. There is always a power struggle for the dominant gangs in the city.
And while it’s a bit off topic, those side stories are really important to the main story. So if you really love these types of stories that fight with different martial arts and young characters that have a lot of appeal to them, it’s definitely a great manhwa to read, but only You need to know what you’re passionate about.
We’re not saying the plot is too unique or spectacular, but what’s spectacular about it is definitely the characters; You may like them or you may not. Although I can say that, it has some original concepts and aspects of manhwa.
Of course, for a Webtoon of this size and with so much content, not all of it will be original or completely well-written and complete, but then, of course, you can There are moments of true genius and great work. .
So what I’m getting is that it has its advantages, it has its own, but overall the story of Lookism is amazing. Lookism depicts a very realistic fighting style without any fantasy elements. It is very actionable. It’s a great comedy that makes you cry and laugh and feel all these emotions as you continue your journey with these characters.
For a manhwa this size, I’m really impressed with how little they’ve reused the curtains, and everything feels unique in that sense. It’s really hard to do weekly webtoons and release those Chapters, especially given the length of these Chapters.
Obviously, without using certain tables over and over again, it’s done a bit, but you can’t really tell that much. The moral of the story; It’s just a matter of trying something before you give it up because something you don’t like in the first few Chapters can make a surprising turn in the rest of the other four hundred Chapters.
