Toru Namaguchi, Anna Kurasawa, Hiroe Igeta star in series based on manga by Tomoko Boryoku
Kodoani.com – NHK officially announced on Wednesday that it is producing a live-action series adaptation of the manga An Older Guy’s VR First Love (VR Ojisan no Hatsukoi) by Tomoko Boryoku. The film is expected to premiere on NHK in April.
Toru Namaguchi will take on the lead role in the film, playing the main character Naoki Endō in the real world. Anna Kurasawa will play Naoki, Naoki Endō’s online persona, while Hiroe Igeta plays Honami. The directing team includes Teruyuki Yoshida, Tomohiro Kuwano, Shunsuke Nakamura and Shinichiro Ishikawa. Mash Morino is writing the script, and Takashi Watanabe is composing the film’s music.
Kodansha USA published an English version of the manga and released it in November 2022. Kodansha USA’s description of the story is:
Naoki, 40 years old, single and working temporarily, lives a life full of failures. However, in the VR virtual world, he sees himself as a lovely young girl. There, he met his first love, Honami – a cheerful and beautiful person.
Naoki’s real life is gradually becoming a disaster, and the VR virtual world where he sought reassurance is about to end. However, in the last seconds, he discovers her existence…
Boryoku serialized the manga on Ichijinsha’s Zero-Sum Online website in 2020, and the manga’s second compiled volume was released in February 2023.
