Kodoani.com – This year’s 5th issue of Akita Shoten’s Young Champion Retsu magazine revealed that the manga Black Joke by Rintaro Koike and Masayuki Taguchi are reaching a climax in the magazine’s next issue on May 17.
The series is set on the fictional Neon Island in Tokyo Bay, a place where gambling and prostitution have been legalized. There, gangs vie for control of the underground economy. The story revolves around the TD Hot Spring Hotel, the only Japanese-style entertainment facility on the island.
Koike and Taguchi launched the manga in Akita Shoten’s Young Champion magazine in 2008, and the series moved to Young Champion Retsu in 2011. Akita Shoten published the manga’s tenth compiled book volume in July 2020.
Koike is the original writer of the PlayStation 2 game Hurray! Sailor, got a manga adaptation of the same name by Katsuwo Nakane.
Taguchi is perhaps best known for his manga adaptation of Koushun Takami’s Battle Royale novel. The manga was serialized in Young Champion from 2000 to 2006, and Tokyopop published the entire manga in English. Tokyopop also published the Taguchi’s Lives manga. Media Blasters published Taguchi’s Battle of Baron Gong manga.
