Kodoani.com – Manga web “Maarui Kanojo to Zannen na Kareshi” by Izumi Hayama and illustrator Yachiyo Okamura will be adapted into an anime and is scheduled to premiere in June.
Illustrator Okamura shared an illustration to commemorate the announcement, posted on Animation ID's Twitter account.
The anime will star Sora Tokui as Mariko Hosoi and Atsushi Tamaru as Nagi Kirigaya. Dai Nippon Printing and IMAGICA Infos will produce this “anime” with a simpler animation style, reducing time and costs. “Maarui Kanojo to Zannen na Kareshi” will be the first anime to have such a style.
The romantic comedy follows Mariko, a plus-sized nurse who loves to eat. Having never experienced love, she thought her life was devoid of love until she met a handsome boy named Nagi at a group date to which she was invited. After that, Nagi asked her out on a date.
The manga launched on LINE in 2022, with Una Toon Studio producing. The second volume of the manga was published in Japan in February 2023. Notably, the manga has over 80 million views in Japan.
