Kodoani.com – Weekly Young Magazine issue 44 announced that the manga “Manchuria Opium Squad” by Tsukasa Monma and Shikako will be on hiatus for a month to give artist Shikako time to rest and protect her health. This hiatus will start from the current issue and the manga will return in the 50th issue, is scheduled to be published on November 13.
“Manchuria Opium Squad” is a series set in 1937 in Manchuria, a country controlled by Japan, and follows the character Isamu Higata. After losing his sight in battle and being exiled to an agricultural facility, Isamu discovers fields of poppies, the raw material for opium. To earn money to care for his seriously ill mother, he decides to illegally produce opium, setting off a complicated series of events.
Monma and Shikako began the manga in Kodansha’s Comic Days magazine in April 2020 and later moved it to Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine in September 2021. The manga’s 14th compiled book volume was published in September 2023.
