The anime series Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) released a short preview video and stills of the 14th episode airing on January 12. The episode is titled “The New Pure Consort” and is summarized as follows :
It was decided that the concubines, including the new Tinh Concubine Loulan, would participate in concubine lessons. Maomao, who failed the exam to become a Lady of the Outer Palace and became Jinshi’s personal maid, was recommended by both consorts Gyokuyou and Lihua to be in charge of those lessons. Maomao ordered teaching materials from the Verdigris House and taught the concubines secret techniques they could use in the bedroom. That night, when Maomao was resting after school, she heard a suspicious sound outside, which aroused her curiosity.

Based on the light novel series of the same name, Apothecary’s Diary is written by Naruto Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. This light novel series is serialized by Shunfunotomo and has inspired a manga adaptation and an anime series. The manga adaptation was written by Itsuki Nanao and illustrated by Nekokurage while the anime series was directed by Norihiro Naganuma. The manga is published by Square Enix and is serialized in their monthly magazine GanGan. TOHO Animation and OML are responsible for the animation production for the anime series The Apothecary Diaries. The anime series first aired from October 2023 to December 2023.
The light novel also inspired a short anime series called Maomao’s Diaries (Maomao no Hitorigoto). Maomao’s Diary features the main character, Maomao, as she explains the main entries shown in the week’s current episode. Maomao’s Diary is streaming on TOHO Animation’s official YouTube Channel and currently has 13 short episodes.
J-Novel Club has now licensed the light novel series and is publishing it digitally while the manga adaptation is licensed and published by Square Enix. Square Enix will also publish the light novel series in English starting May 2024.
The Apothecary Diaries anime series is streaming on Crunchyroll with both English subtitles and dub. The streaming site described the series as follows:
Maomao lives a peaceful life with her apothecary father. Until one day, she was sold as a lowly servant to the emperor’s palace. But she has no intention of living a life of royal compliance. So when the royal heirs fall ill, she decides to step in and find a cure, catching the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official, who promotes her.
