Kodoani.com – The “Mirage Queen Prefers Party” event announced on Sunday that the anime production Mirage Queen (Kaitō Queen) aka Kaitō Queen no Yūga na Kyūka (Mirage Queen vacances élégantes or Mirage Queen’s Elegant Vacations) has been given the green light. Even the series’ original novelist, Kaoru Hayamine, was not informed of the news ahead of the surprise announcement at Sunday’s event.
The novel’s story centers on a ghost thief queen who can steal anything they want. Their gender, age and nationality are unknown. Together with their partners Joker and RD, they fly around the world in their spaceship.
Hayamine and Kadokawa published the first Kaitō Queen short story in 2000. The first full-length novel Mirage Queen Prefers Circus (Kaitō Queen wa Circus ga Osuki) debuted under Kadokawa’s Aoitori Bunko children’s book label in March of that year. 2002 with illustrations by K2 Shōkai. The latest novel was published in July 2021. (Kaitō Queen no Yūga na Kyūka is the name of the second novel.)
The novel series received its first screen adaptation, Mirage Queen Prefers Circus (Kaitō Queen wa Circus ga Osuki), last June. Yūga Yamato stars as the Queen. Saori Den is directing the project at East Fish Studio, and Mariko Kunisawa is writing the script. Kumiko Kawashima is designing the characters. Moe Hyūga composed the music.
