MSI 2023 will have many innovations in competition format with the number of participating teams, promising breathtaking competitions.
Along with Worlds, MSI is one of the two biggest tournaments of the year in League of Legends. MSI 2023 will officially take place after the 2023 Spring Split of the regions closes. At the present time, the BTC of MSI 2023 has begun to take the first steps to prepare for the tournament that will take place in May.

Specifically, MSI 2023 will take place in London from May 2 and end on May 21 (local time) with a specific time for each round:
– Play-in Round (Warm Up Round): 2/5 – 7/5
– Group Stage: 9/5 – 14/5 and 16/5 – 20/5
– Final: 5/21
Matches will start at 9pm Vietnam time. Tickets will start selling from February 23 (local time).
The theme of MSI 2023 will be DEFY – despite all the difficulties and obstacles, the teams will have to show their strength to win the final glory.

At MSI 2023, the tournament will increase the number of participating teams from 11 teams as usual to 13 teams this season. The representatives of the 4 major regions will also increase. Specifically, the LPL, LCK, LEC and LCS regions will have 2 representatives for each region attending this MSI 2023.
With the number of competing teams increasing, the format of the competition will also undergo fundamental changes. Accordingly, the double elimination format (double qualifying, also known as the winning branch – the losing branch) will be applied for the first time at MSI.

This is the format that has been applied in the LPL or LEC leagues, the LCS also applies this format and there are many cases where the champion has turned the situation around, which is the team that came up from the losing bracket. The application of double elimination aims to create more opportunities for teams in competing for the championship, bringing viewers to more surprises and drama during the season.
