Episode 7 of My Dress-Up Darling introduced viewers to Shinju, Juju’s younger sister, after Marin consulted about cameras and photography. As one of Marin’s personal cosplay idols, she was overjoyed at the opportunity to cosplay the sister rival characters on Flower Princess Blaze. When they got to know each other in Episode 8, Shinju explained the difference between a cell phone and a camera.
However, when she started to exceed the average cost of equipment, poor Gojo almost had a heart attack when she realized how expensive the hobby was. Marin assured the guy that she would save up to buy the aforementioned equipment, and they continued to look for potential photo locations.
They find an abandoned hospital, where the remarkable spookiness scares Juju. When it starts to rain, Gojo finds her petrified by thunder and stays behind to comfort her, asking Juju why she pushed herself to cosplay. She explained that from an early age, she wanted to be a magical girl and wearing those outfits brought her a lot of happiness.
The reason Juju wanted Gojo to make such an important outfit for her was because when she saw his work with Marin, she fell in love and immediately felt jealous. She feels the need to have one for herself and says you feel jealous of the important things. Deeply moved, Gojo realized how happy his grandfather must have been when Gojo admired his work and held Juju’s hand in excitement. Having attended all-girls schools, Juju was overwhelmed by the fact that she had never held a male student’s hand and fainted.
After their final exams at school, Marin invites Gojo to the beach to celebrate all that they’ve worked so hard for. Along the way, a bird steals Marin’s burger and Gojo tries to get it back, but to no avail. After they shared his burger, Marin excitedly headed for the beach, urging him to follow her. As he hesitantly stepped into the water, he explained that he had never been to the beach before because he had spent his life obsessed with dolls and practicing how to draw their faces.
Gojo realized his grandfather was right when he encouraged him to see the world more, describing the scene as nothing like on TV or in pictures. Gojo uses the word beautiful to describe the beach, and as viewers of My Dress-Up Darling know, that’s a big deal for Gojo. In episode 3, he explains that it’s hard to call something beautiful because he reserved the term for things that he truly believes in his heart to be beautiful – such as dolls. of his grandfather or when he is sad calling Marin beautiful without realizing it after the first cosplay event.
Marin, herself deeply moved, is inspired to show him more places together over the summer that Gojo happily accepts. Out of confusion, Marin tried to calmly leave the beach to cool herself off from the thought of spending time with him during the summer vacation. After pressing a cold soda to her cheek, she turned to look and was touched to see Gojo enjoying the view. She took out her phone to take a photo, performing the backlit trick that Shinju had taught her earlier. Gojo has a few moments of immersion in his surroundings before slipping and falling onto some seaweed, causing Marin to laugh as she runs back to help him back up.
Episode 8 of My Dress-Up Darling is not only extremely rewarding but also beautifully animated. The beach scene in particular is stunning, and combined with the compelling story, fans will likely rank this as their favorite episode to date in the series. There are hints of a summer of love for the two main characters, and viewers are excited to see where their cosplay adventures will take them.
