Everyone has a favorite scene, and series creator Kohei Horikoshi is no exception; His favorite scene is one that was specifically created to be the climax of the manga and it takes place earlier in the series than one might expect.
In a 2018 interview with Japanese site Natalie Comics, translated by tumblr user Aitaikimochi, Horikoshi was asked about the anime’s position at the time, which happened to be the battle between All Might and All for One at high Hideout Raid movement. The interviewer asked about writing darker chapters for the story, and Horikoshi admitted that he struggled with how dark that part became.
However, he explained that he wanted fans to feel like this scene was the series finale, even though it was never intended to be. So he approached the fight between All Might and All for One with the intention of making fans say, when all was said and done, that “the best episode in the entire series was the fight between All Might and All For One.”

In the story, the stakes of the All Might/All for One battle are extremely high; All for One defeated many pro heroes, including Best Jeanist, and captured Bakugo, preventing All Might from taking action. All Might realizes his power is waning and he may no longer have the strength to win this fight. Things certainly looked bad, but Midoriya and the other students helped take Bakugo away, so that All Might could use every last bit of his power to defeat All for One. The battle was a gripping and emotional one, and victory came at a high cost, with All Might’s power completely depleted after this battle.
Horikoshi seemed very satisfied with how the anime brought that scene to life. In another interview from Toho Cinema Magazine (also translated by aitaikimochi), he considered All Might vs. All for One season 3 is one of the best animated action scenes in the series, along with Deku vs. Todoroki at the Sports Festival from season 2 and All Might vs. USJ Nomu from season 1. Fans can agree that all three are standout moments in the series, and All Might vs. All for One remains one of the most talked about battles, especially since All Might’s rematch took place in the Final War arc of the manga.
It’s certainly interesting that Horikoshi wants fans to look back on a moment relatively early in the series as one of its best, but given All Might’s intense popularity and the importance of that battle for the characters, it makes a lot of sense. stands out as one of the best scenes he’s ever done.
