Most manga authors have to submit multiple submissions to a magazine before it’s accepted, but My Hero Academia’s Kōhei Horikoshi only needs one attempt.

Horikoshi participated in an interview for “Shonen Jump’s Manga Making Guide” where he revealed that it didn’t take long for him to make his debut in a magazine. “Only one work, 31 pages long,” said the mangaka. “The first comic I created was picked up. From then until I published the first series, I guess I had another one and a half.”
Akamaru Jump Published Horikoshi’s First Manga
Horikoshi’s first work as Tenko was published in Akamaru Jump, now known as Jump Giga, in 2007. Although Tenko was originally 31 pages long, the one-shot is now close to 50 pages. After another Shinka Rhapsody one-shot, Horikoshi tried her hand at serialization, starting with her debut work Oumagadoki Zoo, which appeared in Weekly Shōnen Jump from July 2010 to April 2011. A clumsy girl named Hana Aoi finds out her zoo works at cursed. Originally a one-shot, his second series Barrage began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump from May to September 2012. Depressed after Barrage was cancelled, Horikoshi returned to My Hero. The work went through many changes and ideas until it finally became My Hero Academia. It is currently one of the most popular manga series ever with over 65 million copies as of January 2023 and several volumes have ranked on the Manga and Graphic Novels bestseller lists.
