My Hero Academia introduces the truly tragic consequences of war

The catastrophic battle between the Hero Association and the Occult Liberation Front could act as a catalyst for the students of Class 1-A.

The following contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Season 6, Episode 14, “Hellish Hell,” currently streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu.

The battle between the Hero Association and the Occult Liberation Front officially ended in the 13th episode of My Hero Academia Season 6. Technically, the heroes won the fight, but the aftermath of The battle doesn’t look like that. Episode 14 continues to delve into how the heroes have been and continue to suffer after their most recent engagement.

Since they have the element of surprise, the heroes instantly gain the upper hand in the early stages of the fight, even eliminating one of the big boys of the Occult Liberation Front. However, they did not quickly finish what they had started. Tomura Shigaraki finally woke up and turned the tide of battle alone. Shigaraki’s revival also resulted in Gigantomachia joining the fray, further pushing the heroes into a corner. Even so, the heroes managed to drive them away with the combined efforts of the top experts and the strongest members of Class 1-A.

Shigaraki has disappeared, but the work of the heroes is not over yet

The combined forces of Midoriya, Bakugo, Todoroki, Endeavor and other heroes were forced to stop Shigaraki’s rampage. The villain’s incomplete body is no longer able to take the damage he has accumulated, resulting in his body being destroyed. However, the villains will not get out quietly. Dabi finally revealed his true identity, rocking Endeavor to the very end and shocking the entire world. And despite the absence of Shigaraki and the main force, the other members of the Occult Liberation Front continued their struggle. Needless to say, the consequences were dire.

Midoriya, Bakugo, Endeavor and countless other heroes have been seriously injured and are no longer active. Many notable heroes also lost their lives, including UA’s own Midnight. Despite their losses, those who could still move could not rest yet. They are responsible for catching the remaining perpetrators, transporting the injured and rescuing those in distress. The majority of students, including Ochako, belong to this group. The heroine is trying to save as many lives as possible. But in doing so, she exposes herself to the tragic reality of how war can be. She even witnessed a professional hero fall after a traumatic experience, lose hope and want to change careers.

This experience will force the students to grow up

Given that this wasn’t the first time the students of Class 1-A had fought in a large-scale battle, it was the first time they had lost so many friendly faces. Aizawa, their homeroom teacher, is permanently disabled, while Midnight sacrifices herself for the greater good. Even society’s greatest pillar of hope, Endeavor, is inevitably subject to Dabi’s revelation. As such, the students will have to take the place of those who have lost the ability to complete their tasks. They have to grow up quickly to become heroes that society can count on, especially now that the Occult Liberation Front has launched its next move.

While the loss of Midnight and Aizawa will certainly push the class forward, the severity of this battle may act as a bigger catalyst for some specific students. Ochaco, first of all, has experienced first-hand what stress build-up can do to seasoned heroes, and more than that, to someone as young as she is. Bakugo, Midoriya and Todoroki also have to increase their power. These three had personally experienced their helplessness against Shigaraki. Todoroki will not only have to deal with the villains but also the problems of his own family. Bakugo was once again reminded of his weakness, and Midoriya nearly lost his powers to All For One. Given that they are also My Hero Academia’s most promising young heroes, great responsibility and great expectations rest on their shoulders.
