My Hero Academia: Ten unjustly treated female characters in the work

in Rankings

My Hero Academia has “launched” a series of charming and likable female characters, from the sweet and vivacious Uraraka to the honest Asui and a lady Yaoyorozu from a prestigious family.

They’re both great characters with a lot of potential but haven’t had the chance to unleash their full potential yet.

One of the biggest shortcomings of the Shounen genre is the fact that female characters tend to be pushed aside, unfortunately, My Hero Academia has committed the same thing.

Anime series often reduce the number of female characters to satisfy fans’ desires, lack character development and build an image of women weaker than male characters to the point of sexism.

The presence of female characters in MHA (My Hero Academia) makes the work so much fun to enjoy, so they should have received more kindness and attention than that.

My Hero Academia: Ten unjustly treated female characters in the work

Star N Stripe was instantly defeated despite her popularity

Star N Stripe was instantly defeated despite her popularity

After Midoriya’s lone mission, Shigaraki went insane, and All For One took over the dark world.

Ultimately, America needs to intervene through its own #1 Hero, Star N Stripe. With the impressive Superpower Reality-warping, New Order, Star N Stripe presents itself as a formidable character.

However, within just two chapters, Star N Stripe is almost immediately defeated and killed by Shigaraki.

Despite her efforts to build a strong image and reputation, Star N Stripe was immediately brutally tortured in battle and she was never mentioned again.

This is insulting, because while she was known as a powerful and powerful Heroine, she ended up being defeated so easily.

Ryukyu doesn’t get the attention he deserves

Ryukyu doesn't get the attention he deserves

In the battle with Shie Hassaikai, the organization that runs the criminal underworld, there is a point of criticism.

One of the biggest problems is that Heroines like Uraraka, Asui, and Nejire, as well as their professional Hero mentor, Ryukyu, one of the few professional heroines, go largely unnoticed.

Ryukyu is a new character, but the audience knows almost nothing about her. Ryukyu was supposed to be one of the Top 10 Professional Heroes, but her strength and prowess was never shown.

It’s a shame because it would be a great opportunity for the MHA to bring in a new professional Heroine that young Heroines can admire.

Unfortunately, this didn’t come to fruition as Ryukyu never got a chance to shine whether as a character of the work or as a Pro Hero.

Nana Shimura is a nominal heroine

Nana Shimura is a nominal heroine

Nana Shimura is one of the former One For All holders and the only woman to do so.

Nana is merely built as the iconic female OFA holder, other than that, she doesn’t have the depth of character like other characters.

Although Nana is All Might’s beloved mentor, her powers are more implied than shown.

Nana has a strong appearance and an impressively quirky personality, but she has never actually participated in battles.

The rare things revealed about All Might’s master are that she was the mother of a son she abandoned and Nana was killed by All For One. These circumstances could be considered sexist and a negative reflection of her personality.

Midnight is used for humorous purposes in a vulgar way

Midnight is used for humorous purposes in a vulgar way

Midnight is one of the few professional female Heroes to appear in Anime.

However, this character is also not properly built and is mainly used for fan-service purposes, who have inappropriate gestures towards his underage male students.

Midnight’s superpower was useful, but she never got a chance to use it properly.

Midnight is also friends with Aizawa and Present Mic, but their friendship goes largely unnoticed.

Despite being the main female teacher of UA, Midnight is nothing more than a purely humorous character used to satisfy viewers.

Worse yet, Midnight is killed off in the War and is yet another example of how Pro Heroines are constantly being looked down upon and pushed aside.

Hagakure was forced to…naked during the mission

Hagakure was forced to…naked during the mission

Tooru Hagakure is known as the Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl. Viewers never see what she looks like until later in the story.

Hagakure’s powers are useful in stealth missions, but the biggest problem stems from the fact that she has to be completely naked for the mission to be effective.

This is very impractical, since Hagakure is exposed to the elements in this way. Also, the fact that she’s secretly running around only creates a bad image and is a sophisticated example of the sexualization of this character.

Many viewers complained that it was unfair to Hagakure’s character because Mirio was able to avoid nudity by wearing a custom outfit, however the same was not true for Hagakure.

The character Eri was designed as a tool to continue the story line

The character Eri was designed as a tool to continue the story line

Although viewers were happy to see Eri rescued, some viewers recognized flaws in her character.

Or rather, the fact that Eri exists as a plot tool for Midoriya to defeat Overhaul using her Rewind Superpower.

In addition, Eri’s Superpower is the most ingenious key to solving the plot problem, as Rewind can undo any major injury and return the body to its previous state.

Eri’s powers are almost too convenient for Midoriya and later Mirio as she restores his Superpowers.

While her act of gaining control is great, any serious consequences are likely to be undone by Eir.

The fact that UA kept Eri with her could have a negative implication that she could potentially be used as a neutralizer and aid when the Heroes were defeated.

Ashido was overwhelmed by Kirishima and took all the attention

Ashido was overwhelmed by Kirishima and took all the attention

Mina Ashido is a very funny character. Basic information about Ashido is revealed that she and Kirishima attended middle school together. Courageous and confident Ashido, her Acid Superpower is quite impressive, as she knows how to use it expertly.

However, Ashido is primarily cast as a supporting character, her character being used primarily as a background for Kirishima’s character development.

Worse still, Kirishima recently overtook Ashido when he defeated Gigantomachia in the War section.

Since it could be a great moment for one of the girls in Class 1-A to save the situation, it would be a waste to spend that golden moment of shining on another male student.

This feels unfair because Ashido has such a strong presence that she can only step back and give way to another character in the end.

Yaoyorozu deserves more attention than a tool for fan-service

Yaoyorozu deserves more attention than a tool for fan-service

Momo Yaoyorozu is one of two students nominated for Class 1-A. She’s a prodigy with a particularly versatile Superpower: Creativity.

However, Yaoyorozu ended up falling behind as a supporting character, as male classmates, such as Iida and Todoroki, took on the lead roles.

Although Yaoyorozu is said to be the smartest student in her class, she is used for fan-service purposes by unnecessarily revealing a Hero outfit.

Furthermore, despite the top score, the beautiful girl’s intelligence did not pay off in the MHA, as she lost almost all of her battles and the only victory belonged to Aizawa.

This is a huge shame because she could have been the strongest female student in her class instead of just being a fan-satisfying character, nothing more and nothing less.

Nejire is just a girl representing Big 3

Nejire is just a girl representing Big 3

Nejire Hado is one of UA’s Big 3, famous for being the strongest student. Unfortunately, however, Nejire’s character has little or no personality development or emotional development compared to his male teammates.

Nejire seems to have a whimsical and childish personality, but that’s all. While Mirio and Amajiki play an important role in the Shie Hassaikai part, the only time for Nejire to shine is by winning a beauty contest at UA.

Also, unlike Mirio and Tamaki, Nejire doesn’t even have her own smart and biographical introduction, which doesn’t make much of a proper impact and influence for her character in the work.

Nejire mainly appears to be the girl representing the Big 3 with a pretty face.

Uraraka’s character image is gradually overshadowed by his love for the male lead

Uraraka's character image is gradually overshadowed by his love for the male lead

Ochaco Uraraka is the first female protagonist and is considered the Heroine in My Hero Academia.

Uraraka establishes herself as a hardworking girl with determined goals to earn money to support her family by becoming a Hero.

However, these goals become second priority as her character revolves around Midoriya and her feelings for him.

Despite being the female lead, Uraraka is set up to be nothing more than Midoriya’s love interest as most of her most important scenes begin somehow involving him.

Furthermore, Uraraka also spends more time thinking about her feelings for Deku than her own goals.

Even her rivalry with Himiko Toga stems from the two’s feelings for the male lead. This is a huge injustice to Uraraka’s character development as the female lead.
