President of Naruto's Studio Pierrot, Michiyuki Honma, credits the extremely popular Demon Slayer as a major turning point in the anime industry.
Honma spoke with Comic Natalie, where he revealed that Demon Slayer not only prompted Bleach and Kingdom to move to shorter season adaptations, but its effects were felt across the entire industry. “I think Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a huge turning point for the anime industry,” he said. “It is a high-quality work that took a lot of time and a large budget to make, and was a big hit when it was broadcast, attracting people of many different ages. I watched it. Before and after Demon Slayer : Kimetsu no Yaiba was announced, I really felt like we had to change the way we made things. Furthermore, other studios are also releasing high-quality works on a similar scale, and Japan has an environment where films can be viewed on commercial television. ”

President of Naruto's Pierrot studio, Michiyuki Honma, revealed how the 2011 Japan earthquake almost forced the studio to completely shut down.
Anime Studio Pierrot's legacy is “amazing” but “fraught with great risks”
Pierrot has become known for its weekly series adaptations, with Naruto, Bleach, Black Clover and Boruto being the obvious names, in addition to 75 episodes of Hikaru no Go and over 100 episodes of Urusei Yatsura. Honma said the studio's legacy is “undoubtedly great” but “entails huge risks in terms of big budgets and time costs.” He wished for Pierrot to become number 1, thus adapting to the times with the release of Bleach: The Thousand Year Blood War, which benefited from Tite Kubo's increased involvement in its third installment. Honma said he was impressed with the current method and asked fans to check out Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master, airing as part of Crunchyroll's Spring 2024 anime lineup. He added, “Please look forward to the future of Pierrot, which is taking on the challenge of creating new animations.”
While Honma highlights Demon Slayer's undeniable impact, My Hero Academia is also making headlines, with Toho CEO Hiroyasu Matsuoka crediting the series for paving the way for the company's current line of blockbuster anime. Toho Animation, including Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Apothecary's Diary, Spy x Family, Haikyu!! and more. Matsuoka has also previously said My Hero Academia has directly reduced piracy and influenced the success of anime films overseas, including Demon Slayer's Mugen Train and Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
