The recent name revealed by Bandai Namco suggests that a new Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm part may be in development by CyberConnect2.
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm the first part was released in 2008 and has released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
A recent franchise submitted by Bandai Namco has players speculating that the studio may be developing a new Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm part. The hugely popular anime-based 3D resistance game series has somewhat fallen short of expectations compared to games developed by CyberConnect2 since 2016. The return of the series has been heavily rumored with a leaker. The popular CyberConnect2 leak is said to hint at Naruto’s return earlier this year. Now, a new brand of Bandai Namco is sparking much speculation about the brand’s comeback.
Despite Naruto’s immense popularity, the video game portion of the popular ninja series has been relatively quiet in recent years. The Naruto franchise got its last new release in 2019 with mobile-only Boruto: Borutical Generations, and haven’t seen a new installment on console since Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker 2018. The Ultimate Ninja Storm franchise has went on a long hiatus with Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 which was originally released in 2016. Now, CyberConnect2 may be considering a return to the Naruto world.
The European registered trademark of Bandai Namco claims the name “Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections”, indicating that the Ultimate Ninja Storm series could be scheduled to return. While only the title proposal has been made and it is pending approval, Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 have continued to create many anime themed games since Naruto’s last appearance. CyberConnect2 recently brought JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle to modern consoles, previously developed games based on popular anime franchises like Demon Slayer and Dragon Ball Z.
The revival of Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is sure to please many of the series’ most avid fans.
While Naruto hasn’t seen a game released in several years, the franchise is still prevalent in the gaming industry. Fortnite launched its first major Naruto skin last year with a variety of challenges and items based on anime characters. Later updates will introduce more fan-favorite Naruto members such as Gaara, Itachi, and Orochimaru. Naruto was even mentioned in the Apex Legends anime event with a new skin for Wattson based on the iconic ninja franchise.
The return of Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm will not only see one of anime’s most popular franchises return to the game, but also one of CyberConnect2. The Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm series has become popular among fans of the franchise and fighting games in general, with many of CyberConnect2’s highest-rated games coming from Naruto. This Ultimate Ninja Storm sequel could well be the first Naruto game created specifically for the latest generation of consoles.
