Neon Genesis Evangelion is a mecha manga and anime series that tells the story of an organization called NERV created giant machines called Eva and send them to fight the enemies that are ravaging their world, Angles. The anime’s protagonist, Shinji Ikari, is tasked with piloting one of the Evas himself to take revenge on the afterlife. Sent to complete this mission by his father, Gendo, Shinji is caught in the crossfire of this chaotic battle. Another notable and fan-favorite character in this popular anime series is NERV’s head scientist, Ritsuko Akagi.
Ritsuko Akagi became the head scientist of the NERV organization and Project Head E to follow in the footsteps of her mother, Naoko Akagi. She had a very complicated relationship with her mother before Naoko’s death, but she still chose to continue her mother’s work in the Mission Project. In her job, she performs tasks such as repairing damaged Evangelions, updating their systems, and further developing the Magi supercomputer system that her mother originally built. Ritsuko is widely known for her personality traits such as her intelligence, heavy smoking habits, bright red lipstick, and love of cats.
