NetEase Games recently announced that it is opening a new AAA studio Jar of Sparks, which will focus on creating a line of action games.
This action game will follow the new narrative direction. Headquartered in Seattle, the studio will be recruiting talent globally, looking to build new series with new characters, stories, and worlds to spark the imaginations of players around the world.
Jar of Sparks has a team of industry veterans who have worked on some of the biggest franchises in video game history. Studio CEO and head of studio Jerry Hook, who works at Xbox, is a founding member of Xbox Live, has also held executive roles on the Halo and Destiny series, and was formerly Lead Designer for Halo Infinite, join the board of directors.
The studio’s creative director, Paul Crocker, previously served as principal story director for Batman: Arkham Trilogy and assistant creative director for Halo: Infinite. Executive producer Greg Stone served as producer on Doom (2016) and Halo: Infinite. Game director Steve Dyck was previously the character and combat director for Halo: Infinite.
“We’ve produced games for some of the biggest companies in the gaming space, and now it’s time to spark a new line,” says Jerry Hook.

Chinese company NetEase continues to expand into the US market through its subsidiary NetEase Games. The team is based in Seattle and this second new studio is led by Jerry Hook. The Jar of Sparks team will be working on “next-gen” AAA story-driven action games.
In early May, NetEase Games founded Jackalope Games led by the game designer for City of Heroes, Neverwinter, Star Trek Online and DC Universe Online.
