Netflix’s anime rankings for 2022 are looking very good, with returning fan favorites like Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and new anime series like Kotaro Lives Alone.

“Anime is one of our investment platforms in Japan, watched by nearly 90% of the platform’s members last year,” Kohei Obara, Netflix’s Anime Creative Director, told Variety. “At the same time, interest in anime has grown worldwide, and more than half of our members globally watched it last year. From diversifying the medium to garnering popularity fans, we want to continue to grow our members’ discovery and love of anime, both in Japan and around the world, with the next chapter of this anime on Netflix.”
Netflix plans to continue investing in anime and will launch 40 series on the service by 2022. The return series includes episodes 13-24 of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, the latest season of the series. The fan favorite features Jolyne Cujoh with father Jotaru Kujo and their powerful Stands.
Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 Part 2, which continues the adventures of Major Motoko Kusanagi after season 1 premieres in 2020, will also arrive on Netflix in May. Season 1 of Spriggan – the long-awaited anime reboot from The sequel to Hiroshi Takashige’s manga series, which first got an anime adaptation in 1998 – is another major anime series that will premiere on the streaming service in June.
New shows on Netflix include Thermae Romae Novae, an anime series about a Roman architect who travels through time to a modern Japanese public bath, and Kotaro Lives Alone, the story of a boy 4-year-old moves into an apartment next to a manga artist, and The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh, a two-part anime revolving around The Seven Deadly Sins, a shonen series centered on a group of knights in the session fictional version of Britannia.
In 2022, Netflix will also be home to a number of anime series based on other media brands, some of which will be animated by Japanese studios. Chief among these is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a series based on CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 video game world. Animated by Studio Trigger, founded by former Gainax employees and responsible for Kill la Kill, the 10-episode series tells the story of a street kid who tries to survive in the Deadly Night City and gets revealed for the first time in 2020.
Other upcoming series based on the main license include Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix – which takes place in the same ’80s neon-lit aesthetic of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – the much-anticipated adaptation. producer Adi Shankar’s long-awaited Devil May Cry and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, based on Ubisoft’s longstanding franchise.
