A video game based on Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Jujutsu Kaisen anime series finally has a trailer and an official release date.
Bandai Namco shared the Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash trailer on YouTube and social media, showing off the game’s core PvP mechanics and revealing a release date of February 2, 2024. The game is a plays arena-based PvP combat with a matchmaking twist, as it pairs players into teams of two to take on opponents as some of their favorite characters.
According to the trailer, the game offers a variety of playable characters, including Yuji Itadori, Nobara Kugisaki and even Panda, the talking panda bear, along with 12 other important characters from the anime to choose from. Offering both offline and online co-op battles, Cursed Clash gives players the ability to create their own teams of Jujutsu wizards to form unique matches with moves and abilities based on on the team.
In terms of story, Cursed Clash is said to be adapting key scenarios from the original anime’s most famous storylines – notably the “Curse Womb Must Die” and “The Origin of Blind Obedience” arcs – among them there are some big climactic battles. According to the developers, some story elements from the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel manga will also appear in some form.
The game is scheduled to release in multiple editions, Digital Deluxe and Collector’s editions, with each edition offering exclusive content or merchandise. Digital Deluxe Edition buyers will have access to story content from the “Hidden Inventory/Early Death” arc of the anime along with a digital artbook, soundtrack, and in-game cosmetics based on opening scenes The first animation of the anime. Collector’s Edition buyers will receive the same content along with an exclusive wall scroll featuring characters from the anime, although it is only available on Bandai Namco’s official online store.
Bandai Namco has made a name for itself as a publisher of high-budget anime tie-in titles based on properties such as My Hero Academia and One Punch Man, which often become battle arena video games. While they also develop games in-house, like the popular JRPG series Tales, most of their anime-based titles are outsourced to third-party developers, as is the case with Cursed Clash, from the developer My Hero One’s Justice. Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash is scheduled to release on February 2, 2024 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
