Nier: Automata Ver1.1a continues Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Best Element

Nier: Automata Ver1.1a actually uses the game’s iconic score, something done by several anime adaptations beyond Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

The following contains spoilers for Nier: Automata Ver1.1a Episode 1, “Either not [B]e,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.

Nier: Automata Ver1.1a is not the first anime based on a video game, but it is one of the most accurate. Created with today’s classic game in mind, the all-new Nier anime so far is like a streamlined version of its source story. There’s a particular element that helps make the adaptation feel complete and it has nothing to do with 2B or 9S.

Nier: Automata Ver1.1a in particular features some iconic video game soundtracks, and this is a bigger deal than some viewers might realize. This soundtrack was not only praised by fans and critics alike, but by including it in the program, the game Nier: Automata succeeded where many video game cartoons failed. This success goes well with another recent anime — Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — and the way it handles the familiar tunes of the original material.

Nier: Automata Ver1.1a and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Using the Game’s Music

As mentioned, the first episode of Nier: Automata Ver1.1a gives the first small part of the game’s story, namely 2B and 9S meeting and their fight against Engels Goliath. These epic action sequences feature the corresponding soundtrack (e.g., “Bipolar Nightmare”) from the game, adding to the feeling that this is the game’s story brought to life visceral. It sounds like a minor factor, but the use of original soundtracks or even remixed versions of them is a bit rare in animated movie adaptations. That includes game franchises with iconic and recognizable music.

Anime like Street Fighter II V (based on Capcom’s Street Fighter II), Sonic X (Sonic the Hedgehog), and the Netflix series Castlevania (Konami’s adventure series of the same name) were all well received in their own right. them, but they lack music from the games fans have come to love. This is somewhat understandable in the era of Street Fighter II, but it took a serious turn with the latter anime, which was released during a time when the fan base was easier to gauge. It doesn’t help that Castlevania is directly based on Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, while Sonic X adapts recent games Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and alleged elements of Sonic Battle and Sonic Advance 3.

Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an anime that bucks this trend, with the series’ music already available on radio in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. The same goes for the show’s background score. , there are also songs in the game. Again, this is part of the process of going further and making a show feel like physical fans are already familiar with, while also serving as a stepping stone to attract new players. game. Thankfully, Nier: Automata Ver1.1a does the same thing.

Nier: Automata has an award winning score

Keiichi Okabe and music studio Monaca handled the soundtrack for the original Nier: Automata game, and the results are stunning. Combining epic orchestral sounds with moody New Age tracks, the soundtrack is unique, even for the already incredible OSTs of Japanese RPGs. Winning “Best Track/Track” at the 2017 Game Awards, it also debuted at #2 in terms of sales on the Japanese Oricon charts. This puts it in the same popular niche as anime favorites for shows like the pop-filled Macross anime.

Music from Nier: Automata has had a number of pieces arranged, not to mention performed live. “City Ruins,” a controversial subject of the game, was even remixed for 2B’s accompanying stage as a crossover character in the fighting game Namco Soul Calibur VI. Needless to say, the anime adaptation definitely needs to follow the lead of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and include the game’s music. With the level of accuracy of everything else that has been presented so far, Ver1. 1A will probably provide the best and most affordable version of the game.
