VCS player deserves the title “Vietnamese Chovy”
In recent years, while Chovy has gradually asserted himself and become the top Mid Laner in LCK, in Vietnam, another name has also appeared and left a strong impression in the hearts of VCS audiences. No one else, that is Gloryy – the former Mid Laner of Team Whales. Also possessing the “farming minions + carrying the team” playstyle like Chovy, and Gloryy's idol is also the superstar currently playing for Gen.G, this player is affectionately nicknamed “Vietnamese Chovy” by VCS audiences. However, according to a former analyst of GAM Esports in a “half-joking, half-serious” post, Kati is worthy of being “Vietnamese Chovy”.
Specifically, according to Molecule – an analyst of the League of Legends community, Kati has a similar playing style to Chovy. That is, both players have very high farm stats and differ by only 0.1 (Chovy 10.5 – Kati 10.4). In addition, other stats such as gold/minute (Chovy 493 – Kati 500) or damage/minute (Chovy 836 – Kati 802) are not too different. Even, both players use Corki the most in the champion pool this Summer. At the same time, another coincidence is: Chovy and Kati both have 4 first-place finishes – 2 second-place finishes in the last 6 domestic seasons.
– I think this is Kati's time to decide. He's not a first-time Worlds player so the “first time” excuse doesn't work anymore. He's the GOAT midlaner of VCS (some would say Optimus but Optimus has performed worse at Worlds). If he can do something like GAM 2017, he'll get the recognition he deserves.
– I'm excited to see Kati at Worlds 2024 in these conditions, with more in-game responsibilities than he had in GAM. I think the Worlds meta could suit him well too (his Syndra, Ryze, Jayce worked very well last year against TW).
– I would like to see more highlights from the players from the Play-In teams. That could make this stage more interesting.
– I worked with GAM in Summer 2022 and CKTG. Kati said at that time that she wanted to play like Chovy.
Chovy and Kati are both on their way to proving themselves.
Although he cannot be compared to Chovy – the Mid laner who is currently considered the best in the world in terms of reputation or ability to win CKTG 2024, at VCS, it would not be an exaggeration to say that Kati is the best midlaner in Vietnamese LMHT today. But over the years, the “stain” from MSI 2023 against wildcard teams has always haunted Kati no matter how well he played. Kati was also in the GAM squad that defeated Top Esports and Team Liquid, making Knight or APA “sweat”, but many VCS audiences still do not properly appreciate Kati's influence.
Similarly, Chovy is still struggling to find his first CKTG championship title, despite debuting a long time ago. In addition, Chovy still needs to really prove that he can become a pillar for the whole team. At VCS Summer 2024, Kati was the most outstanding player many times, reviving Vikings Esports and leading his teammates to victory. But Chovy, he failed at the Esports World Cup 2024 when he was stuck against Creme. And in the recent LCK Summer 2024 grand final, Chovy, although the best of Gen.G, was clearly not as good as Zeka.
Both Kati and Chovy need Worlds 2024, one to prove that they don't need Levi – Kiaya to compete well in the international arena, and the other needs a Worlds championship title to rise to the ranks of the best midlaners in League of Legends history. Each has a different goal, but they will both bring the final victory to the team they play for. But with this comparison, many viewers are also looking forward to VKE being able to pass the Play-In round and face Gen.G at Worlds 2024.
