Every year, when it comes to the anniversary of its founding, Star Citizen often opens the game for free for gamers to experience. And this year is no exception.
Star Citizen’s annual anniversary has begun and is accompanied by a Free Fly event that allows players to pilot one of six ships for a limited time. Star Citizen’s Free Fly event is a great opportunity for potential citizens to try out the game before deciding if they want to buy their own ship.
Star Citizen is an extremely ambitious space travel RPG being developed by Roberts Space Industries and has been in development since 2011. The game has gained a reputation as one of the community sponsored games. the most in history, with Star Citizen receiving upwards of $400 million in funding over the years. Instead of buying the game, players buy individual ships for anywhere from $40 to packages running into the tens of thousands of dollars. The game has a tight community of players, eager to welcome new pilots into the profession, which is what the anniversary event is about.
As part of its annual anniversary, Star Citizen is free to play until July 15. The Free Fly event features six ships to choose from, allowing players to experience the wide range of possibilities available in the game. Some of the free ships during the event include Dragonfly Black 40, Avenger Titan $55, Arrow $75, Aurora MR $40, and $100I $65. This selection gives players the opportunity to try ships from different price points, which will be useful when deciding if the $75 is worth the investment over cheaper ships.
Veteran players who can take on the role of guides can recruit players under their command by participating in co-op sessions for as little as 30 minutes at a time. Both are rewarded with unique skins for their collaboration, providing some incentive for veterans and new players to join the community. A referral program is also going on during the founding event to reward referrers and referees with their very own hoverbike in Star Citizen. Players have until July 18 to purchase a starter pack with a referral code if they want to receive the hoverbike bonus.
While still in Alpha, regular major updates for Star Citizen will add new content and refine its gameplay. Star Citizen is a notoriously difficult game to master, which is why these community mentoring events are so important. Without a guiding hand, many players will give up before making it through the game’s arduous exploration of the game.
If you love the game, quickly experience it while the game is still open for free.
Have fun playing the game!
