One Piece officially reached another major milestone in Chapter 1050. Two of the Yonko, Kaidō and Big Mom, were defeated in battle. However, not everyone is ready to believe this.
There are many who believe that the Emperors will return shortly to wreak further havoc. This also doesn’t just happen with characters in the universe. Many readers deny that Luffy and his friends have actually accomplished this unthinkable feat. For the sake of argument, this is the truth, what people believe, and what the story seems to suggest is true.
The narrative boxes will make the audience believe that Luffy is the ultimate victor in the battle for Wano. According to them, the winner of the previous battle was Kaidō, but the eventual winner changed to Straw Hat Luffy. This state-report-like presentation of facts seems like it should be taken as irrefutable proof that the war is over.
It is important to take into account what exactly happened to the four emperors. Both of them were flung into the earth so forcefully that their bodies ended up in a pool of magma underground. Later, the force of that burrowing caused cracks to reach the seafloor of Wano and cause a massive underwater volcanic eruption. Surely both Kaido and Big Mom were defeated.
However, fans still do not believe that the four emperors will fail. They assumed that both would emerge from magma virtually unscathed. Others believe they will get out of it severely incapacitated. Others weren’t sure if they were alive or dead. Whatever it is, there are clearly people who believe that lava is not enough to kill one of these four emperors.
To be fair, the idea of quartets, or any particularly powerful One Piece characters, surviving direct contact with lava isn’t all that far-fetched. Anyone who has fought Akainu, who ate the Magma-Magma Fruit, and lived to tell the story can attest to this. The Pirate Kings are said to be submerged in magma, but not necessarily melted by it. Since this is One Piece, it’s reasonable to assume they’ll survive this.
As for whether they will come back to fight some more for Wano, the answer is probably no. Everything about Chapter 1050 shows that this is the perfect victory that the Ninja-Pirates-Mink-Samurai Alliance fought so hard for. Leaving these guys back to fight more will lessen the positive emotional impact this chapter will have.
Even if Kaido and Big Mom came back now, no one would have the strength to fight them anymore. In fact, the remaining Beast Pirates are planning to finish off the remaining rebels. They might have been lucky, but if Yamato hadn’t stopped them, chances were they’d have headed a few more shots. Even if the Alliance had enough power to finish off the Beast Pirates, they likely wouldn’t be able to settle another war with the four emperors.
If Kaidō and Big Mom were indeed still alive, they would most likely be pushed away from Wano by their subordinates. It would be like how Moria was escorted out of Thriller Bark by his own crew after the defeat. This way, the Alliance still wins and they can fight again another day.
However, everything has worked out, this could be the end of the battle for Wano. If the Straw Hat Pirates had to face the Emperors again, it might be saved for later. Until then, they can finally hold the big party Luffy promised them before the raid on Onigashima begins.
