One Piece Fan Letter is a new special anime commemorating the anime's 25th anniversary. This new spin-off episode will reveal just how bad the summit war at Marineford really was for everyone involved.
The 30-minute episode will tell the story from the perspective of ordinary people in the One Piece world. Thereby, it shows how Luffy and the Straw Hat pirates have influenced the situation of the entire pirate world.
Remake of One Piece's Marineford War
One Piece Fan Letter takes place right when Luffy and the Straw Hats reunite at the Saobody Islands after two years of training. Directed by Megumi Ishitani, the new anime will adapt Tomohito Ohsaki's One Piece Novel: Straw Hat Stories. This novel is a collection of short stories, showing new aspects of the Straw Hat crew through the perspectives of different people. Luffy's perspective is the most attractive, many people have changed their lives because of Luffy.
For example, the confession from a marine – who witnessed Luffy protecting Ace in the Marineford arc.
The clumsy older brother began to resent his younger brother, who openly bullied him for advancing much faster than his older brother. Even so, his younger brother still has a special affection for Luffy.
During the summit war, both brothers almost died in a gunfight between the warring forces. They were caught between Hawkeye Mihawk and Sir Crocodile, and were nearly crushed by a pirate ship falling from the sky. Essentially, these two brothers are invisible Marines scattered across the landscape of a war that Luffy (or the fans) don't really care about.
From their point of view, everything that happened was very scary, because both of them almost lost their lives. But when he saw Luffy fight to rescue his older brother, the younger brother was inspired to help himself.
Marineford proves to be an important arc in One Piece
The Battle of Marineford represents a true turning point in One Piece's story, as Luffy and the others have completely changed since then. That's when the wider world began to change completely.
Through new perspectives like these, fans can see why it was such a world-changing event. Because not only was it a war where Luffy lost his brother in the chaos, but it also impacted the daily lives of people who really didn't have the power to fight back.
The One Piece anime has really achieved great success this year as film production will have to be paused for a long time. The production team is entering a “recharging” period over the next few months to prepare for what's to come in the Egghead arc, which won't have new episodes until around April 2025. The anime will launch with a new time slot when it returns, but we won't have information about that until Jump Festa 2025 later this December.
