Kaido, the powerful former Yonko, never truly awakened his Devil Fruit, a fact confirmed in the latest chapter of One Piece. Kaido’s lack of intention to awaken his Devil Fruit is due to his reliance on Haki and belief that it is the best way to stay on top. If Kaido had awakened his Devil Fruit, the outcome of the fight with Luffy might have been different, but it is unclear how much of a difference it would have made.
A piece answered a question that has divided the fanbase for a long time by providing evidence that the powerful former Yonko, Kaido of the beast, never truly awakened his Devil Fruit. Kaido is the strongest opponent that Luffy and the Straw Hats have ever faced so it is expected that he will also possess the highest level Devil Fruit ability, called ‘awakening’. However, the manga never openly stated that Kaido was using his awakened form, which caused a huge debate among fans.
In the world of One Piece, Devil Fruits are mysterious objects that give the person who eats them magical powers. Many of the strongest warriors in the series have eaten Devil Fruits, including Kaido, one of the Four Emperors, hailed as ‘the strongest being in the world’. However, only a handful of Devil Fruit users in the world have unlocked the ultimate level of power, known as ‘awakening’, which enhances their abilities in various ways.
Although Kaido has shown various uses of the Devil Fruit, Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu Mythical Zoan, the manga has never openly stated that he is using the awakening ability. This makes fans question whether Kaido actually awakened his Devil Fruit and if so, why didn’t he use that power in his battle with Luffy.
One Piece’s Kaido officially confirmed his power is stronger than the devil fruit
In the midst of his toughest battle, Kaido declared that Haki was the strongest power, stronger than a Devil Fruit. And he may be right.
Luffy’s battle with Lucci proves that Kaido has not awakened his devil fruit
One Piece chapter #1069 answered that question once and for all. On Egghead Island, Luffy and the Straw Hats have the opportunity to encounter CP0 and their old enemy, Rob Lucci, who also has a Zoan Devil Fruit (Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard). Luffy and Lucci immediately fight and while the Straw Hat captain demonstrates his Gear Fifth power, Lucci responds by revealing that he has also awakened his Devil Fruit. The form he takes confirms that Kaido never awakened his Devil Fruit. Lucci appears slimmer than the Beast-Man form seen before. More importantly, Lucci now has distinctive puffs of smoke around his shoulders that look very similar to the puffs of smoke Luffy displays in his Gear Fifth form, proving that this is a common trait in awakened Zoan systems, something Kaido never shown.
To understand why Kaido never awakened his Devil Fruit, one need look no further than Eiichiro Oda’s notes regarding Gear Fifth, published in the Road To Laugh Tale special volume. 4. There, Oda mentions “the power of imagination” as an important aspect of Luffy’s awakening. This concept reappears in chapter #1069, when Dr. Vegapunk explains that Devil Fruits are the realization of human desires, turning imagination into reality. However, during his battle with Luffy, Kaido showed contempt for Devil Fruit users. According to him, the best way to stand on top of the world is Haki, a power born not from desire but from will. This means that Kaido’s reliance on Haki makes him less inclined to fully master his Devil Fruit abilities, including his awakening.
Can Gear 5 Luffy defeat Kaido with his awakened devil fruit?
Since the Kaido that Luffy fights and defeats at the end of Wano has not yet awakened his Devil Fruit, one naturally wonders if the fight would have ended differently if the former Yonko had truly fulfilled his Devil Fruit’s potential. your demons or not. With Luffy struggling so much to defeat him with his unawakened Devil Fruit, it is very likely that Kaido using his awakened ability will be able to withstand his final attack. Straw Hat and win the battle. However, depending on how his Awakened Devil Fruit power manifests, it may not make much of a difference.
This theory about Kaido’s Devil Fruit not being awakened is further supported by the fact that Kaido received his Devil Fruit from Big Mom during the battle in Lord Valley, where the two Yonko were on the losing side and maybe just eat it to save his life and get out of that predicament. There are still many questions that need to be answered regarding Devil Fruits and their awakening. At this time, A piece fans can at least place Kaido Devil Fruit Arguably take a break and focus on the surprising and exciting revelations the series brings with each new chapter.
