As of Chapter 1053, Luffy’s bounty has reached 3 billion Berry. However, considering everything the guy has done, this seems like a small increase.
Kodoani.com – Monkey D Luffy has been doing a lot lately to make him famous in the One Piece world. His actions and newfound powers hold him personally responsible for defeating Kaidō, a decades-old Emperor of the Seas. On top of that, he unlocked his Devil Fruit’s true ability and turned himself into the new Joy Boy. This means there’s nothing to say about all the powerful allies he’s made during his journey, two of whom helped dethrone Big Mom, another Emperor. He has become a new Emperor of the Sea in terms of power, influence and title. All of this combined should have caused the guy’s bounty to skyrocket, but it didn’t.
Luffy’s bounty only increased from 1.5 billion Berries to 3 billion. This is not only lower than Kaidō’s 4.6 billion, but shares it with the Eustass Kid and Trafalgar Law. Considering how Luffy defeated Kaidō one-on-one while the other two defeated Big Mom two-on-one, this seems pretty unfair. However, as proven time and time again, bonuses are not always a true reflection of strength. There were several factors that led to Luffy and the others receiving the bounty they got.
First of all, it’s important to understand if exactly what Luffy did deserves a bounty increase. He and his crew are both central figures in the Ninja-Pirates-Mink-Samurai Alliance responsible for defeating the leader of the Beast Pirates. These pirates have made Wano their base of operations for decades, but Luffy and the others. was able to effectively push them out of it.
What was even greater than the defeat of the Tailed Beast Pirates was the defeat of Kaidō, the world’s strongest being. If he didn’t come down, the defeat of the rest of the members wouldn’t matter; he can easily take out all the others on the opposing side alone, especially after they are weakened by fighting. Luffy delivering the decisive blow that brought him down was what eventually led to the successful Ninja-Pirates-Mink-Samurai Alliance Raid on Onigashima.
On top of that, the raid on Onigashima also saw Big Mom’s defeat. With the defeat of both her and Kaidō, the balance of power in the open seas of the world will undergo a major shift that no one could have prepared for. Luffy may not be directly responsible for taking down Big Mom, but his alliance with the pirates speaks volumes about his influence.
What can overcome all of this is Luffy’s Devil Fruit Awakening. By realizing the true power of his Fruit and impersonating the Sun God Nika, Luffy has officially become the reincarnation of Joy Boy. The guy is currently one of the biggest threats to the World Government’s centuries-old rule.
Three billion Berries doesn’t sound like enough to cover all that Luffy has achieved recently. However, Kaidō, the Emperor he defeated, is worth more than 4.6 billion. If Luffy has indeed surpassed Kaidō, then his bounty should reflect this. Therefore, it will be much closer to Kaidō’s bounty, if not higher than it is.
What makes this bounty boost feel particularly appealing is the fact that he shares it with Kid and Law. While Luffy can fight Kaidō one-on-one, Kid and Law need to work together to defeat Big Mom, who is said to be the weaker of the two Emperors. With this in mind, Luffy’s bounty seems like it should be a bit higher than theirs.
With all that said, it’s important to understand Luffy’s decision to cap his bounty at 3 billion. First, this bounty reflects what the world knows about what happened in Wano. Since the country’s borders were closed, the flow of information regarding what was really going on inside was severely limited. From an outside perspective, the two quartet have fallen into the hands of three members of the Generation of Neptune. This limited understanding of the situation is what makes these three pirate captains seem equally responsible for the Emperor’s defeat.
Furthermore, the bounty, while low, makes sense based on who the Worst Generation is fighting. Big Mom is worth 4.388 billion Berries while Kaidō is worth 4.611 billion; If these bonuses are combined, their total value is up to 8,999 billion. Whoever appoints three captains, their prize money can be rounded up to 9 billion and divided among them.
It’s also possible that the World Government has kept Luffy’s bounty increase relatively low to hide the boy’s true importance. Surprisingly, it wasn’t just the fact that he was basically strong enough to defeat an Emperor on his own. He is also the heir to D’s Will and, more importantly, the Nika Devil Fruit; both of these suggest that Luffy will be the next Joy Boy. Raising Luffy’s bounty higher than it should be would just be further proof of this. The Five Elders even requested that Luffy’s D name and his Gear Five image be removed from his wanted poster as an extra precaution.
If someone finds out Luffy is Joy Boy, it will lead to a global upheaval. The guy who became a symbol of freedom would later inspire and encourage uprisings all over the world. If that happened, not even the World Government would be able to restore order. For the World Government to maintain control, it is imperative that no one discovers that Joy Boy is back.
With all that said, 3 billion Berries is still a pretty high bounty for Luffy. It was not only twice his value before, but much more than he needed to be called the four emperors; For comparison, Blackbeard – Blackbeard isn’t even worth 2.25 billion at the last count. In the grand scheme of things, the 3 Billion Berry bounty is nothing worth sniffing.
As for whether Luffy should be worth more than 3 billion, the answer is probably yes. For all he’s accomplished and everything that makes him a threat to the World Government, he’s definitely worth more than Kid or Law. However, the World Government probably has a reason to keep Luffy’s true worth a secret, especially given the chaos that will ensue. For now, 3 billion Berries would be just right for them.
