Why doesn’t Eiichiro Oda do death scenes in One Piece
One Piece author Eiichiro Oda explains why he refused to illustrate death scenes in the popular Shonen Jump manga.
This announcement comes just days after Netflix announced that One Piece: Marineford had been added to the platform. With Crunchyroll also licensing the One Piece anime, Crunchyroll will likely simulcast it while Netflix will stream each episode one week after its initial release in Japan. Still, the move is yet another example of Netflix’s growing foray into anime. A recent data report revealed that over a hundred million hours of anime were watched on Netflix in the first half of 2023. Netflix is also building close relationships with original creators, as seen with Nakaba Suzuki of the Seven Deadly Sins, who canceled his first work, Rising Impact, will now get an anime.
However, Netflix’s biggest investment in creators can be seen most clearly in One Piece. In collaboration with WIT Studio, it was announced that One Piece will be remade from the first season titled The One Piece. This left many Japanese fans pondering on social media about whether the show will be remade or not since Weekly Shonen Jump clearly did not like Toei Animation’s version. While many are excited about the new series, fans have also expressed concerns about the possible use of AI in the remake, citing WIT’s reference to “advanced technology.”
