To help honor the original Celebrating 40 years of Dragon Ball mangaDragon Ball Super Gallery has organized a clever tribute that gives the talented mangaka an opportunity to pay homage to the epic series that has inspired Akira Toriyama’s countless fans around the world. .
The Dragon Ball Super Gallery project has been releasing redesigned Dragon Ball manga covers every month, illustrated by famous authors. Artists like Naruto’s Masashi Kishimoto, Bleach’s Tite Kubo and many other famous talents helped pay tribute ahead of Dragon Ball’s 40th anniversary in November 2024. Now, Yusuke Murata of One-Punch Man fame have begun to do that.
Murata’s submission, shared on X by WSJ_manga, features a dynamic redesign of the Dragon Ball comic book cover Volume #12. Toriyama’s original work features Goku, Master Roshi, and the other members of Dragon Ball taking a seemingly normal road trip in a large yellow truck. However, like Murata’s adaptation of the webcomic One-Punch Man, the remake offers more excitement with high-speed chases, flying cars, and little Goku jumping into the action.

Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series is one of the most famous in the world, and for good reason. Akira Toriyama’s original manga lasted from 1984 to 1995. At that time, the art and stories in the manga inspired many mangakas to become the artists and storytellers they are today. Murata is one of the talents whose work is in series like One-Punch Man helped him become one of the most famous artists of his generation. Now, he had the chance to honor the legacy of Dragon Ball and did not disappoint.

One-Punch Man artist announces new animation studio
The talented artist behind One-Punch Man, Yusuke Murata, has founded his own anime studio and revealed a teaser video for his first anime series.
The Dragon Ball cover of volume #12 has a striking red background with an image of Master Roshi transporting his students Goku, Krillin and Yamacha in a large yellow truck on a highway next to a body of water. Goku’s sense of curiosity is represented by a minimalist representation of the character staring at something off-screen while in the backseat. Artist One-Punch Man’s redesign of the Dragon Ball cover captures the fun adventure feel of Toriyama’s original cover, but he also makes it more fun.
Murata’s rendition of the Dragon Ball cover adds a dramatic flair to Toriyama’s version. It features other cars seemingly trying to push Roshi out of the way while Goku jumps out of the car towards a fast looking red car equipped with electric poles and a bright smile. The redesign is effectively framed similarly to Toriyama’s original work. However, it manages to perform Goku looks less timid and more eager to go on an adventureeven if it is on top of a speeding vehicle.
Dragon Ball’s inspiration can be found in many Manga
The Dragon Ball Super Gallery isn’t the only tribute to the series’ legacy that fans can enjoy in 2024. While many fans wait for the Dragon Ball Super anime sequel to get release date, a brand new anime project heavily related to Akira Toriyama called Dragon Ball Daima will be released in the fall. With Daima comes the highly anticipated Dragon Ball Sparking Zero game and the final part of Dragon Ball Super Gallery will release in November along with Dragon ballCelebrating its 40th anniversary, fans will have many reasons to celebrate.
