Warning: Spoilers for One-Punch Man Chapter #199
Summary
The latest chapter of One-Punch Man takes inspiration from Naruto and puts a dark twist on the famous genjutsu technique, Sharingan. The Ninja Village Chief uses his genjutsu to create horrifying illusions, manipulating his opponents’ fears to gain the upper hand in battle. The level of terror caused by One-Punch Man’s genjutsu far exceeds that of Naruto’s, showing the true terror that a skilled magician with psychic abilities can cause.
EQUAL Man one punchFlashy Flash and Speed-o-Sound Sonic’s ninja-trained characters confront evil Ninja Village Chiefperhaps it’s not surprising that the series might be starting to look similar Naruto, one of the most famous ninja-themed manga series. However, the latest chapter takes one of Naruto’s most famous techniques, the Sharingan, and puts a dark and scary twist on it.
In chapter #198 of One-Punch Man, the Ninja Village Leader, aka Empty Void, makes a horrifying entrance by absorbing the flesh and organs of his fallen followers, transforming into physical form right in front of the two rogue ninjas. He taunts Flash and Sonic, asking about Blast and threatening to eat him.
However, in chapter #199, out of the corner of his eye, Sonic realized that the bodies of his fellow ninjas lying around them were not skeletons as they appeared but instead were still intact. As explained by Flashy Flash, the Ninja Village Chief does not consume his followers but uses them His signature powerful magic technique to create the illusion of killing them and gutting them to intimidate opponents.
One-Punch Man’s use of genjutsu is even scarier than Naruto’s
One-Punch Man by ONE and Yusuke Murata, chapter #199 (Viz numbering)
In Naruto, genjutsu is a technique rarely used by most ninjas, as it requires exceptional skill and intelligence to manipulate illusions convincingly. An exception to this are those capable of using the eye technique known as Sharingan, such as members of the Sasuke clan, such as Sasuke and Itachi. Sasuke has caused Sharingan victims to experience hallucinations of being stabbed or being crushed by darkness, which are certainly scary in their own way, but never as horrific as what One-Punch Man demonstrated.
One-Punch Man takes the Ninja Village Chief’s genjutsu a step further, explaining that he can not only create these brutally realistic illusions but also he can also use psychic abilities to discover his target’s greatest fears, and then uses them against him. For Flashy Flash, that means an illusion of Saitama’s Deadly Serious Punch, and his senses are completely fooled, even knowing about the Leader’s genjutsu abilities. He then shows another illusion of Sonic’s severed head, fooling him long enough for the Leader to attack.
One-Punch Man is certainly capturing the true terror that a vile being capable of creating any illusion can cause, with these images specially calibrated to horrify Flashy Flash in particular. While Flash is clearly skilled at fighting without relying on his eyes, even he can’t do much against genjutsu of this caliber. However, the final illusion may be the most devastating, as it is caused by his contact with God’s Cubeand it’s a way to trick him into accepting the power of this still-mysterious villain, which could have dire consequences.
The sudden appearance of God and His mysteries will certainly attract all fans’ attention, but the horrifying illusions shown by the Ninja Village Chief are also the highlight of this battle, showing that Man one punch“Ninja Arc” of “Ninja Arc” can not only borrow words Naruto but also pushes these elements to the next level by giving them a unique spin.
