Kodoani.com – Nintendo has revealed a new trailer for Pikmin 4, the first new main game in the series Pikmin for a decade, during the company’s Nintendo Direct presentation on Wednesday. The video reveals the game’s new Pikmin, some new mechanics, and a July 21 release date for the Switch.
Nintendo describes the game:
Meet Pikmin, tiny plant-like creatures that you can plant, uproot, command, and tame your enemies! These curious helpers come in different varieties — fire doesn’t have to sweat for Red Pikmin and the brand new Ice Pikmin can freeze enemies and the environment. Use your Pikmin miniaturization powers (and a bit of strategy) to explore this mysterious planet.
You also get a dog! Oatchi (pronounced oat-chee), the kind-hearted resident boy and trusted partner, can help with things like breaking obstacles and piggybacking Pikmin throughout your adventures. With tiny Pikmin and a dog capable of pulling, no challenge is too great!
Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned in 2015 that Pikmin 4 “is very close to completion.”
The Pikmin series of strategy games allow the player to take control of creatures called Pikmin in an attempt to explore an unknown planet and survive predators, using the special attributes of each Pikmin to Navigate the game environment.
Nintendo released the first game in the series on the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. Nintendo released Pikmin 3 on the Wii U in 2013. The horizontal screen action-adventure Hey! Pikmin was released for the Nintendo 3DS in July 2017 in Japan, North America, and Europe. Nintendo released a version of Pikmin 3 Deluxe for Switch in 2020. Pokémon GO developer Niantic released the free-to-play AR (virtual reality) game Pikmin Bloom worldwide last year.
