Warning: Spoilers for Pokémon Horizons Episode #48
Summary
Roy earned his first official solo victory in 48 episodes, demonstrating his growth as a trainer in Pokémon Horizons. Despite his late success, Roy showed dedication and adaptability in battles against more experienced opponents. The focus on Terastallization adds a unique twist to traditional gym battles, putting Roy on the path to becoming a top trainer.
First time, Pokémon Horizon' Roy won the gym battle, giving him a much-needed win in the aging series. Although Roy's battle was not a normal battle for a badge, he still managed to defeat Brassius, the Grass-type Gym Leader of the Paldea region.
Roy previously fought Brassius in episode 10, being surprised when Brassius Terastallized his Sudowoodo and changed its typing, causing him to lose the battle. However, it was just a fun match, it helped Brassius once again find his artistic motivation. This time, after officially enrolling in Naranja Academy's “Terastal Course,” Roy is tasked with traveling to Brassius and fighting against him to gain experience in using Terastallization.
Roy's first experience with Terastallizing proved to be a good one, and Roy understood the best way to use the transformation quite intuitively.
After 48 episodes, Roy won a fair and worthy victory
Roy's victory was not only notable against a skilled Gym Leader; this was actually his first official solo victory in the entire series. It seems quite late in the series for Roy to get his first victory, especially compared to the previous series focusing on Ash, but Horizons told a very different type of story, in which combat did not play a role. important anymore. a similar role to Ash. Roy also had the misfortune of having to fight much more experienced opponents, such as Amethio, or even legendary Pokémon like Black Rayquaza.
Despite this late victory, Roy has performed admirably in the past and remained dedicated to training in the face of these losses. Even in this episode, Roy fights Nemona for the first time and loses, even though again, she is much more experienced than him. Fuecoco now has a comprehensive list of moves at its disposal, thanks to its training, including several different types that will help it face any opponent in battle. Brassius tested these moves by Terastallization which changed Sudowoodo's weakness, forcing Roy to use all of his moves to win.
It's worth noting that winning isn't necessarily part of the test Roy is taking; Riko in the previous episode lost to Katy but still passed her test. The aim was simply to prove that he was capable of handling Terastallizing, and a victory that just happened proved that quite convincingly.
Roy certainly seemed to enjoy the fight with Brassius and may have found a love for the gym challenge thanks to this victory. It's not hard to imagine Roy trying to become a championship level trainer like Nemona, who became Roy's closest rival. It's implied that Roy, Riko and Dot will have to fight against all the Gym Leaders at some point, so hopefully Roy can keep this up and turn it into a winning streak . Pokémon Horizon Next will move on to Dot's gym battle with Iono, so with any luck, Dot might win her match as well.
