The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer revealed many creatures from the new region, but Lechonk and Pawmi’s designs were disappointing as they were among the first Pokémon to appear in Generation IX.
The Pokémon franchise is constantly evolving and creating new creatures to add to its huge roster, but the latest designs revealed in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet game are somewhat disappointing. . Generation IX will likely take the franchise’s number of creatures past 1000, making it one of the largest game character collections in the world! Through so many games with new Pokémon, it can be noticed that the series’ developers are starting to run out of new, interesting ideas for creatures. Pokémon with only a few differences from our real-world animals keep popping up in the Pokédex, which makes fans really concerned about the design of the new creature in the future!
The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet game trailer has revealed some new creatures in the new area, but their design is somewhat disappointing. For example, Pawmi, this Pokémon is like another version of Pikachu, it is also Electric and has a mouse-like appearance. Pawmi’s cheeks even look like Pikachu, with many more details that make it look very similar to the brand’s mascot. Although Pawmi is extremely lovable, its existence in the Pokédex is somewhat redundant. Most generations in Pokémon have a different version of Pikachu, such as Pachirisu in Sinnoh, Mimikyu in Alola or Morpeko in Galar. It’s a pity because aside from Pawmi, there are still quite a few new creatures with unconventional designs in the Pokédex.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also spawn creatures that are quite similar to real-world animals, with only minor changes in parts, such as Lechonk. Although neither Game Freak nor Nintendo has told us what its system is, and Lechonk is certainly cute, its design is quite similar to the wild boar. Unfortunately while Lechonk isn’t the only creature whose design resembles real-world things, there are other Pokémon like Lillipup, Wooloo, Klink, and Klefki, all of which are pretty ordinary in their design. However, this is not new in later generations, as it has existed since the Kanto region, for example Pokémon like Muk and Exeggcute, they are a pool of mud with eggs.
The Pokémon franchise can run out of ideas for a number of reasons
There are plenty of countries around the world that could inspire new regions and new Pokémon titles, but Nintendo and Game Freak are probably running out of ideas for unique creature designs. Although there are many variations of old Pokémon now, it can be difficult for them to design creatures with new and memorable looks. In addition, while Nintendo and Game Freak are still exploring each area, the Earth’s climate is changing and scientists consider it possible to cause mass extinction, which could affect the design creatures based on real world animals.
However, one thing that makes many new Pokémon designs disappointing is the existence of very beautiful fan-made creatures. The official Reddit of the Pokémon franchise is filled with unique creations from fans. At this point, it’s good that the fandom is so active, but they accidentally affect the developer. It’s unlikely that Nintendo or Game Freak will use community designs, but the dramatic drop in creature quality is worrying a lot of Pokémon fans. Fortunately, a lot of information about the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet game is still a mystery, and it is likely that the game will later create many interesting surprises.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is slated for a November 18 release, with Nintendo likely to reveal a few more new creatures in the near future. However, the latest Pokémon to appear in Generation IX are a bit disappointing compared to previous generations. When Nintendo announced Pokémon Sword and Shield, fans immediately fell in love with the design of some of the creatures in the Galar region. If the other new Pokémon in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet game are as bad looking as Lechonk or Pawmi, then fans will surely be disappointed in the latest generation of this popular franchise!
