Date A Live IV may finally end Shidou’s story. But what can fans expect from the latest season of this classic harem anime series?

With news of season four releasing in 2022, it’s important to preview previous seasons to remind fans of what anime has to offer. The anime revolves around Shido Itsuka, who meets a mysterious-looking girl who is later revealed to be a “Spirit” from another universe entering the real world. This mysterious girl was originally described as the leading cause of the planet’s immediate problems: earthquakes in space.
Later in the anime, it turns out that this mysterious girl isn’t the sole source of the guy’s problems. In general, “Spirits” are the main cause of humanity’s impending doom. So, to prevent the destruction of the planet, Shido must seal this “Spirit” power, which can only happen when they fall in love with him. Before long, Shido leads a harem where the Spirits compete for affection. At first glance, dating Spirits may seem silly. However, the anime takes the idea to a whole different level. Impressive character illustrations, humorous episodes, and occasional fantasy events make Date A Live a top-notch anime.
The plot of Date A Live
Date a Live introduces viewers to a collection of the most powerful spirits who control magic and are the main cause of a 30-year-long large-scale disaster on Earth, known as the “space earthquake”. The anime reveals two different options for dealing with these problematic souls. The first is by killing them. Thus, humanity waged war against these otherworldly beings using the AST (Anti Spirit Team), a team member of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. These battles take place with Spirits using weapons from the Deus Ex Machina industries. The second option to reduce earthquakes in space is to allow the Spirits to date the main character, Shido.
On the other hand, Shido’s strategy involves making the Spirits fall in love with him and then sealing their magical powers with a kiss, turning them into humans in the process. Of course, Shidou couldn’t do this alone. He does this with the support of Ratatoskr, an organization responsible for overseeing operations.
In essence, the main character’s role is to capture the Spirits and keep them happy later. By season two, Shido had won the hearts of six Spirits: Itsuka Kotori, Yatogami Toka, Yuzuru & Kaguya Yamai, Izayoi Miku, Tokisaki and Himekawa Yoshino. However, his luck hit the road when he met Tokisaki Kurumi, a powerful Spirit with the ability to manipulate time. Despite her obvious interest in shido, she refuses to let him seal her powers. Even if each Spirit’s power was sealed, they could still harness their abilities in dice situations.
The third season of Date A Live focuses on Shidou attracting two Spirits. The first one is Natsumi, also known as the Witch. After meeting Shido, Natsumi’s true form is revealed, and as a form of revenge, she plays with Shido. Making Natsumi fall in love with the guy proves to be a mission goal for Shido since he had to teach her what love really means in the first place. The second spirit turns out to be Shidou’s classmate, Tobiichi Origami.
Date A Live Could Be The End
Origami is a member of the Anti-Spirit team who is determined to destroy the Spirit who murdered her parents. Having not found any clues earlier in the anime, she was silent during the first season. However, she later sets herself on a path of revenge by becoming a Spirit to time travel to the past and kill the Spirit that was involved in her parents’ deaths. But the road to revenge is never smooth. Origami’s plan didn’t go according to script, and in the end, Shido intervened, sealing her powers and helping her deal with her psychological scars, bringing season 3 to an end.
Despite the exciting scenes that Date A Live offers, there are still loose ends that need to be filled in, including sealing off Kurumi’s powers and revealing Shidou’s true form. Season 4 of this rom-com series will begin on April 8. Hopefully this year’s season will bring more thrilling scenes for fans to enjoy.
