Kodoani.co – Kadokawa announced on Monday that the anime series is based on the light novel series “Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004” (Yūsha-kei ni Shosu: Chōbatsu Yūsha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku) by author Rocket Shokai is expected to be released in 2025.
Rocket Shokai launched the light novel series on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu site in October 2020, and Kadokawa began publishing the series in print in September 2021. Recently, Kadokawa released the fifth volume on September 17. August. The English version of the series has also been licensed by Yen Press, and the second volume is expected to be released on December 12.
The story revolves around a punishment called “heroism,” reserved for only the worst criminals. Those sentenced under this punishment were forced to fight on the front lines against the demon king’s army. If they die, they can be revived and continue the fight. However, when their leader is sentenced for killing one goddess, and then meets another, an important contract is made that could change the world…
At the same time, a manga based on the novel was also adapted and published on Kadokawa’s Dengeki Comic Regulus website in March 2022. Kadokawa published the manga’s first volume in December 2022.
