Manga about food-loving prostitutes, samurai otaku launches in November 2021
Kodoani.com – The third volume of the manga Yoshiwara Platonic Shū Okimoto’s manga revealed on December 22 that the manga will end in the next volume.
The manga revolves around Sadachika, an Edo period samurai obsessed with the art of ukiyo-e. In an attempt to teach him how to win women over, Sadachika’s father takes him to meet one of the most coveted prostitutes in the Yoshiwara red light district, senior Murasaki. Sadachika was very nervous when he met Murasaki, but in the end their relationship started with Sadachika’s cooking skills.
Okimoto launched the manga in Kodansha’s Morning magazine in November 2021.
Brothers Shin and Yuko Kibayashi — under the pseudonym Tadashi Agi — launched The Drops of God manga with artist Okimoto in Kodansha’s Morning magazine in 2004. A live-action series based on the manga aired in Japan in 2009. The manga ended in June 2014, the 44th and final volume was compiled and published in July 2014. The final part of the manga, titled Marriage ~ Kami no Shizuku Saishūshō~ (Marriage~The Drops of God Final Arc~), released in May 2015 and ended in October 2020.
During its publication, the manga gained a reputation for boosting sales of the liquors featured in the series. The French wine magazine La Revue du vin de France recognized the manga, giving it the magazine’s top prize in 2010. The New York Times also featured the manga in the Food and Wine section. resounded in 2008.
The manga is inspiring a new live-action television series coming soon that will be multilingual under a partnership between US, French, and Japanese companies.
