Organizers of the 17th Annual Seiyu Awards announced the winners of the Merit Award, Child/Family Award, Kei Tomiyama Award and Kazue Takahashi Award on Tuesday.

The awards ceremony, which will reveal the full list of awardees, will be held on March 11. This year’s ceremony will be the first in-person in three years. In addition, this year the categories “Best Main Voice Actor”, “Best Supporting Actor” and “New Voice Actor” will no longer be gender-segregated. The awards committee stated of this change, “dubbing is a job that transcends gender, as female voice actors sometimes voice male characters and vice versa.” The committee added that it had been discussing the topic for a few years and decided to offer three awards without gender out of respect for diversity. Beginning in 2017, the Special Merit Award aims to honor diversity. Honoring deceased voice actors who have contributed to a variety of film genres has been replaced with awards honoring all voice actors who have passed away in the previous year.
Starting in 2019, the awards have introduced four new categories, including “Foreign Film/Series Award”, “Game Award”, “Influencer Award” and “MVS (Valuable Seyuu) best).”
