Digital Extremes released a new trailer to reveal their new MMORPG project that could be part of the broader Warframe universe.

Digital Extremes, the studio behind the hit game Warframe, has spent nearly a decade focusing almost exclusively on its flagship product. During that time, some of their other promising plans, such as The Amazing Eternals, failed without ever getting a final product. Now, however, the studio has announced Soulframe – a brand new product that could be their next major focus.
While it’s still not entirely clear whether Soulframe will be set within Warframe’s own universe, the visual inspiration behind the new project paints a clear picture. Soulframe is an MMORPG that can deliver “slow and heavy” melee combat in an ever-changing world that seems to be responding to some sort of industry development by changing day-to-day.
Digital Extremes trademarked Soulframe earlier this year, which caused a bit of confusion among Warframe’s gaming community. While the title alludes to a direct relationship with Warframe, it doesn’t seem like this is necessarily what the development team is aiming for. While there’s certainly room for Soulframe to come into its own, Digital Extremes director Steve Sinclair has said that the title will be in “Warframe’s mirror universe”, which could conjure up a lot of ideas for fans. .
Curiously, much of Soulframe’s newly formed development team came from Warframe itself. Sinclair is one of the game’s previous creative directors (now succeeded by former community manager Rebecca Ford) and he will join Geoff Crookes, who has a similar role to play on the project. The pair appear to be excited about the move to Digital Extremes’ new flagship product, which they say will be inspired by Princess Mononoke and The NeverEnding Story, among others. At the same time, Warframe’s delayed Duviri Paradox update is back on track and its development should resume as well.
One of the biggest criticisms of Warframe over the years is that it’s an underpowered MMO with a stellar campaign, and that Digital Extremes could use Soulframe to deliver a project with a better balance of themes. Various features and contents. As an all-new product, Soulframe will allow DE to continue evolving the evolving gameplay experience without being held back by the drawbacks of Warframe.
Since Warframe is widely regarded as one of the best live-serve games on the market, it will be interesting to see if Digital Extremes can do something similar with Soulframe. Since the game has just been officially announced, much of it remains a mystery and more information about it will be announced in the coming months.
