In chapter 62.3 of Spy x Family, Twilight realizes that the biggest enemy is not Ostania as he once believed.

The last few chapters of Spy x Family focuses on the plot of Twilight, starting from the boy’s childhood, playing a soldier with his friends until he loses everything, thus becoming a real soldier in his attempt to do something about the pain Twilight carries. Twilight is unrecognizable from Loid Forger fans familiar to today. Twilight’s plot ends in Chapter 62.3and while previous chapters were painful, this latest chapter feels brutal.
Chapter 62.3 of Spy x Family is a sure anti-war message. Ostania and Westalis both permitted, and perhaps encouraged, innocents to fight and die for them.
Before becoming friends, Twilight’s first encounter with Franky took place in less than ideal conditions. Twilight’s anger has blinded him to seeing his enemies as monsters, but there’s still something human about Franky’s unruly personality and the way he begs Twilight to spare his life. However, his enjoyment did not last long.
Franky points out that no one from the East or the West knows why they fight, or why they hate each other. Each side has been informed by their respective governments that the other is responsible for dropping the first bomb, for starting the war and causing enmity on both sides. People kill each other for no reason, believing the lies their governments have told them.
This is not what Twilight expected to hear. For years, he’d treated the Ostani as monsters, and now an Ostarian fugitive was trying to tell him they were on the same side. For the first time, Twilight questioned what he knew to be the truth.
Twilight became a soldier to avenge the deaths of his friends, and when reunited with them at the army camp, he burst into tears when he realized they had escaped the bombing years earlier. However, this happiness was short-lived when his friends were killed in battle, dying on a futile mission. Losing friends for a second time, Loid realizes in horror that Franky is telling him the truth.
Not once did Twilight question what the government told him. Loid wonders if he already knows the real reason why the war started, if he can prevent the nightmarish failure of their mission. In his suffering, he realized that the real enemy is not the East, rather, ignorance is the real monster.
Twilight lost everything because she didn’t know the truth. Knowledge cannot bring Twilight’s friends back from the dead, and that’s something Twilight has to live with for the rest of her life. The guilt that Twilight carries is a burden, because he will never know if he can change the outcome. Twilight begins to conceal himself by correcting his real name, creating false identities, and conforming himself to anyone he meets to protect himself.
At the end of the chapter, Twilight tells a WISE recruiter that she is not interested in winning the war or defending her country. When asked why he agreed to join WISE, a group of children race through Twilight, followed by a close-up of his eyes – no sensation. Twilight told the man that there was no reason. Twilight may have failed to save her friends, but that doesn’t mean she can’t try to save future generations from going through the same pain he did.
