What's Happened in Suicide Squad Isekai So Far?
DC's Most Dangerous Team Is Trapped in Another World
The series begins with Harley and Joker running amok and causing havoc across the city, but they are ambushed by elite soldiers led by Katana. While Joker escapes, Harley is captured and taken to a facility where she finds other criminals. The group, consisting of Harley, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark, wake up in a helicopter, and Amanda Walker reveals that their mission is to protect a research facility. As punishment for escaping or not complying, the bombs around their necks will be detonated. Furthermore, unless the bomb receives a signal every 72 hours, it will detonate.
The group's luck runs out when the helicopter crashes and the group realizes They were actually sent to another world where strange creatures lived. They find themselves in the middle of a war between two groups. Monsters attack the Suicide Squad but are easily defeated, but then the team is imprisoned by a faction of humans who are wary of these strangers. There, they meet Rick Flag, who reveals that he was sent there some time ago but was unfortunately captured. After realizing that the bomb will explode if they do not get to the facility, they take over the prison.
Meanwhile, Cecil, one of the kingdom's commanders, is on his way to negotiate with the Suicide Squad after the princess begs him to help them. After being granted an audience with the queen, it is discovered that the evil Empire is commanded by escaped criminals sent by Amanda earlier. To make amends, the Suicide Squad is tasked with taking down the Empire's commander in exchange for their freedom. It turns out that the commander is Ratcatcher, and his hatred for Deadshot causes him to attack the squad mercilessly, but he is overwhelmed. Just as he is about to be killed, Katana swoops in and rescues him.
Suicide Squad Isekai Episode #4 Will Introduce New Characters and Focus on World Building
One problem with Suicide Squad Isekai's debut is that it doesn't focus enough on the fantasy world the characters are sent to, instead focusing on the dynamics within the group. Hopefully, starting with volume #4, the series will start to develop its setting more, as no isekai can be good without a decent amount of world building.
While the series is scheduled for 10 episodes, there's not much room for a complex plot, but so far the story looks interesting. The mystery surrounding why Katana and Ratcatcher are allied with monsters is interesting, and the fact that they're both apparently threatened by the emperor hints at the introduction of a powerful new character, perhaps introduced in episode #4.
Do not miss Isekai Suicide Squadepisode #4 when it airs on July 3, 2024.
