T1 possesses a historical element that makes Gen.G worried
It can be said that the upcoming Semi-final match with Gen.G at Worlds 2024 will probably be the most difficult match that the T1 team has to face. It is no longer a domestic arena where fans are so used to T1 losing to Gen.G. And it's not MSI – a tournament where T1 has only won the throne twice in its history. This is Worlds and the last big stage of this year. The opportunity for T1 to write history is only 2 matches away from them and the Semi-final match with Gen.G is also considered an early final of the season.
However, besides past achievements, the audience also realized that: T1 clashed with 3 MSI champions at 3 consecutive World Championships, from 2022 to 2024. Of those 3 times, there were 2 times. T1's champions became Royal Never Give Up (2022) and JD Gaming (2023). Another notable thing is that both RNG and JDG defeated T1 on their way to the championship at MSI at that time.
Gen.G possesses a unique difference in T1's performance
The difference between Gen.G and its two opponents, RNG and JDG, is that on the MSI championship journey of Chovy and his teammates, they did not have to clash with T1 any time. The confrontation in the 2024 World Championship Semi-finals is also the first time Gen.G clashes with T1 in a BO5 match of a World Championship. At last year's tournament, Gen.G stopped early in the Quarterfinals despite being highly rated. Meanwhile, T1 played brilliantly and retained the World Championship for the LCK.
The current situation is not much different from Worlds 2023, when T1 is still very underestimated before the Semi-finals and Gen.G is the top candidate for the championship. But in the upcoming Semi-finals, T1 and Gen.G will have to clash again instead of two different branches like last year. And perhaps, this confrontation will actually be an early final, where whichever team wins will be able to put a hand on the championship cup.
