Kodoani.com – Miami Film Festival’s Gems 2023 event officially announced that the film “The Boy and the Heron” (Kimi-tachi wa Dō Ikiru ka) by director Hayao Miyazaki will be shown on November 4 at Silverspot 12 theater at 4:30 p.m. EDT. The film festival will take place from November 2 to 5 at Miami Dade College.
The film “The Boy and the Heron” has achieved revenue of up to 8,333,397,800 yen (about 55.60 million USD) in Japan. This is one of the highest-grossing films in Japan and has attracted a lot of attention from audiences and critics.
The film was released simultaneously on IMAX, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Cinema and DTS: X screens, marking this remarkable event for Studio Ghibli.
GKIDS has licensed the film and will launch it in North American theaters on December 8, with previews held on November 22.
The film had its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and opened the event, marking the first time a Japanese animated film opened the event. The film was also screened at the San Sebastian Film Festival (SSIFF) and was honored with the Donostia Award for outstanding achievement in director Hayao Miyazaki’s career.
The film was scheduled to open the 2023 Animation Is Film Festival, an important event in the animation industry.
“The Boy and the Heron” was highly appreciated not only for its cinematic quality but also for the contributions of Hayao Miyazaki and the orchestra composed by Joe Hisaishi, along with the theme song “Chikyūgi” (Globe) performed by Kenshi Yonezu.
