Previously, Aniplex released the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions in the west in December 2022, concurrent with the release date in Japan. The PS4 and Switch versions have sold more than 150,000 copies worldwide.

“Mahōtsukai no Yoru” was one of the first collaborative works between Kinoko Nasu and artist Takashi Takeuchi, before they formed Type-Moon. Originally a novel, Nasu and Takeuchi only showed the manuscript to friends but did not officially release it. Type-Moon later developed it into a visual novel with art by Hirokazu Koyama in April 2012, with two sequels planned.
