Kodoani.com – Official website for the anime series Zannen na Ikimono Jiten (Humorous & Adorable Evolutionary Creatures or Literally, Encyclopedia of Pitiful Creatures) by Fanworks announced a new trailer, poster images, more voice actors, and July’s 8-day film opening on Thursday.
The new voice cast includes Natsuki Hanae as the koala Leroy (top left in the image above), Maaya Uchida as Usao, the Japanese hare (top center), Hiro Shimono as Usagizaki-sempai, and Tsuyoshi Muro in the film. as co-navigator Mogumogu (bottom left), and Sairi Itō as co-navigator and Mogumogu’s daughter Gurara (bottom right).
The film will have different directors and writers for each of its three segments. Former Zannen na Ikimono Jiten unit director Yūji Uchiyama is directing and writing the screenplay for the film’s Antarctic segment, titled “Pentabi” (Penguin’s Journey). Midnight Horror School and Web Ghost PiPoPa author Naomi Iwata is directing the Australian segment “Leroy no Home Tree”, with a script by Yoichi Kato (Space Brothers, Scarlet Nexus). Kei Yoshimizu is directing the Azumino, Japan segment titled “Hachiawase no Mori” (The Forest of Encounters), with a script by Toru Hosokawa (Polar Bear’s Café).
Tadaaki Imaizumi returns to oversee the film, and Aeon Entertainment will distribute.
The series offers humorous introductions to surprising animal facts, such as “raccoons don’t really wash their food”, “dolphins will drown if they are completely asleep”. and “chameleons change color at will.”
Takahashi Shoten began publishing the series in 2016.
Mariko Tokunaga directed the first 10-episode anime series of the book, which premiered in August 2018. Pop Team Epic director and screenwriter Jun Aoki directed the two sequels in March. 2019 and July 2019. The fourth and latest five-episode series (also directed by Aoki) premiered on January 31. The series also inspired 24 live-action short films from May. October 2020 to March 2021.
