On March 5, 2024, Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine shared news that the Pumpkin Scissors manga would return. It will begin publishing again on April 6, 2024, after a break since March 2020, lasting nearly four years.
Initially, Del Rey was in charge of the series but then Kodansha took over. Currently, the manga has 23 volumes, the latest volume was released in November 2019. Not only that, Pumpkin Scissors also had its own anime adaptation in October 2006, with the participation of several voice actors. famous and it’s a collaboration between Studio Gonzo and Studio AIC.
The Return of the Pumpkin Scissors: A Story of Redemption and Hope
The Pumpkin Scissors manga series by author Iwanaga Ryoutarou, launched in 2002 in Kodansha’s Magazine Great. Due to its growing popularity, it was moved to Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine in 2006.
Unfortunately, the series took a break in March 2020, leaving fans to speculate about the cause, including many concerns about the author’s health. However, after almost 4 years, the series is expected to return in April 2024.
In the English-speaking world, Del Ray initially licensed the manga in November 2007 but discontinued it after only five volumes in August 2009. However, Kodansha Comics USA took over the role, starting Digitally published in 2016.
Back in October 2006, the Pumpkin Scissors manga was adapted into an anime by Studio Gonzo and AIC (Anime International Company). However, Studio Gonzo ran into financial difficulties and merged with its parent company in April 2009. Sadly, it has been inactive since 2020.
The anime features some of the top voice talent, including Miyake Kenta, known for voicing All Might in My Hero Academia, as Randal Oland, Shizuka Itou, recognized for his role as Akeno in High School DxD, as Alice L. Malvin and Toriumi. Kousuke, who voices Silva Nozel in Black Clover, plays Oreldo.
Set after the long-running conflict between the Imperial Empire and the Ice Republic, the Pumpkin Scissors anime unfolds as an exciting action film. The story focuses on Alice L. Malvin, who leads a war relief unit called Pumpkin Scissors, which specializes in assisting those affected by the aftermath of war.
Amid his efforts, Malvin meets Randal Oland, a compassionate soldier burdened by his troubled past. Despite his inner demons, Oland joins Malvin’s cause to seek redemption. However, Oland is influenced by a mysterious blue lantern, which gives him immense, almost monstrous, powers. As he struggles with his newfound power, fear and doubt surround him.
However, Malvin remains steadfast in his belief in Oland’s inherent goodness, despite the challenges he faces. The question is: will Oland’s compassion overcome his formidable strength, helping Malvin in his mission of hope and helping those in need?
