Kodoani.com – Toei Animation has released a trailer for its new indie horror game called NOROI KAGO: the Grudged Domain (Japanese title: Noroi Kago: Gegege no Yoru), based on the anime adaptation of Shigeru Mizuki's manga GeGeGe no Kitarō. The game is developed by Toydium and is scheduled to be released on PC via Steam in 2025.
Game description:
NOROI KAGO: the Grudged Domain is a cooperative survival horror game centered around yokai – supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore. Players can join up to four people in co-op mode, with the goal of escaping a confined space where yokai roam.
Previously, GeGeGe no Kitarō related products had strong growth, such as the mobile game Yuru~i GeGeGe no Kitarō: Yōkai Dotabata Daisensō, which was launched in 2018 and discontinued in January 2023.
Additionally, the latest film in the series, Kitarō Tanjō: Gegege no Nazo (The Birth of Kitarō: The Mystery of GeGeGe), will be re-released in Japanese theaters from October 4. This re-release is titled Kitarō Tanjō: Gegege no Nazo Shinseiban (The True Birth Version), with approximately 327 re-shot scenes and some newly dubbed dialogue, along with an R15+ rating. The original film was released in November 2023 with a PG12 rating.
The film is part of a series of four “major projects” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shigeru Mizuki, the author of GeGeGe no Kitarō. Another project in the series is the anime Akuma Kun, which premiered on Netflix in November 2023.
The latest GeGeGe no Kitarō anime series, the sixth television adaptation, aired from April 2018 to March 2020, ending after 97 episodes. Mizuki's manga, which began in 1959 as Hakaba Kitarō, has spawned seven television anime series, several animated films, and two live-action films. The plot follows a non-human boy who straddles the human and supernatural worlds.
