Manga based on fantasy novel to launch in January 2020
Kodoani.com – The September issue of Shonengahosha’s Young King Ours magazine published the final chapter of the manga adaptation of the novel. Bye-Bye, Earth of Tow Ubukata on July 29. The manga’s fourth and final volume will ship on September 30.
The story is set on an Earth where everyone takes the form of animals. Bell (informal Latin name) is the only girl in the world without animal features. She begins to discover if there are other creatures like her. Bell wields a sword and participates in the struggles between the city and the outside world.
Asahi launched the manga in Young King Ours in January 2020. Shonengahosha published the manga’s third volume in September 2021.
Ubukata’s fantasy novel Bye-Bye, Earth was first published in two parts in December 2000 with artwork by Yoshitaka Amano. The work was then released four new volumes from 2007 to 2008 with illustrations by Hyung-Tae Kim.
Ubukata’s Mardock Scramble novel has inspired anime and manga adaptations. Ubukata has also written scripts for anime such as Ghost in the Shell Arise, Heroic Age, Fafner, Psycho-Pass 2, and Human Lost. Wit Studio and Ubukata announced the Moonrise project (title in action) in December 2018 and an English-language opening novel for the project came out that month.
Ubukata Kuroi Kisetsu’s debut work (The Black Season) won his first Sneaker Taisho Gold Prize in 1996. His novel Mardock Scramble won the Nihon SF Taisho Award in 2003. The novel His 2009 release The Universe Revealed won the Best Seller Award, the Yoshikawa Eiji Award for New Writers, and the Naoki Award.
