Before moving on to the first round, this episode begins with a surprising announcement from one of the beginners on the Kirisaki High School kyudo team.

The following contains spoilers for Episode 2 of Tsurune: The Linking Shot, currently streaming on HIDIVE.

The second episode of Tsurune: The Linking Shot moves into the competitive phase and with it comes some exciting new characters, including a potential new rival that has been revealed since the first episode.

But before the competition begins, the show updates viewers on what some of the key figures in Kirisaki High School have been up to.

A Look at Kirisaki’s Kyudo Team’s Personal Life

This episode begins with a surprising announcement from one of the beginners on the Kirisaki High School kyudo team. Manji, one of the twins who fought against Minato and his friends throughout the first season, announced that he wanted to leave the starting lineup, surprising almost everyone in the room, including including his older brother, Senichi. After a sincere conversation with Shu, Senichi finally accepts his brother’s decision, showing a surprising level of maturity between the two when compared to their behavior in the first season.

From there, the scene shifts to Shu’s lavish home, where he is greeted by his adorable little sister, Sae. From the short time they interacted with each other, it was clear that the brothers were very close, but when Sae asked to watch Shu’s upcoming match, he immediately refused her. Once again, Tsurune uses the use of “show not speaking” to great effect. Shu doesn’t tell Sae or the audience that he still feels a bit bitter about losing to Minato and his team — instead, it’s shown in the way Shu’s fingers squeeze his cup. and short scenes of the penultimate match were shown above his head. It’s humane to see these characters initially presented as insurmountable opponents portrayed in a more sympathetic light.

What better way to show a character’s hidden depth than to show how they interact with their family? That seems to be the ongoing theme for this episode: siblings. As the focus returned to the members of the Kazemai High School kyudo club, the topic of siblings came up once again. Seo notes about how comfortable Ryohei can be in other girls’ personal spaces and correctly guesses that he has an older sister – namely an older one.

However, their relationship seems to be much more than that, as an earlier scene shows Ryohei briefly talking to a family member through a door with a note labeled “Knock first! , but that family member never appears, although it is implied a lot of the aforementioned sisters.

Reuniting with old classmates and hinting at a new plot

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the tournament preparations, Kaito asked permission to go to the bathroom. But as most longtime sports anime fans know, bathroom visits always lead to fateful encounters. For Kaito, it was a reunion with a pair of old classmates from middle school who used to be at the same club as him. Again, the tension between the trio is evident through subtle hints in body language, facial expressions, and clever dialogue choices that reveal just the right level of interpretation to help viewers. clear picture of what could have happened between the three boys.

Coincidentally, Minato also reunited with an old clubmate from middle school later that day. But what’s more surprising is that he’s the new potential rival that was revealed at the end of Episode 1. What’s even more surprising is that, unlike Kaito’s encounter, Minato and Nikaido appear to be quite friendly when Nikaido even talked to Minato from the very beginning. Name. This makes his seemingly angry reaction to Kirisaki’s loss in the previous episode even more confusing, creating some interesting mysteries to uncover in later episodes.
