The card “Tyler the Great Warrior” was created for child cancer patient Tyler Gressle in 2005
Kodoani.com – Yu-Gi-Oh! in existence—”Tyler the Great Warrior,” printed only once—will be auctioned on eBay on April 19. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has accepted Tyler Gressle’s wish to create a card. Yu-Gi-Oh! in 2005 and Gressle has kept the card ever since.
In 2001, Tyler Gressle was diagnosed with undifferentiated liver cancer, an extremely rare form of cancer. At the time, there were only 200 known cases in the United States. Through his wish, he was given the opportunity to choose the art and name of a Yu-Gi-Oh! coming soon.
YouTube documentary producer Alex Cimo interviewed Gressle, who shared details of his story. For the “Tyler the Great Warrior” card, manga creator Kazuki Takahashi drew two design sketches based on Future Trunks, a character from the Dragon Ball series. Takahashi also personally signed the card. Gressle commented that his wish gave him the opportunity to express appreciation for two of his biggest concerns at the time: Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh ! .
The auction will start on April 19 and end on April 29 at 6:00pm PST, 9:00pm EST, and 10:00am JST. Gressle plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from the auction to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as a thank you for helping to illustrate his inner warrior.
