Vegeta’s ability to become a Super Saiyan was initially hindered by his impure and evil heart, but he found a loophole in Dragon Ball lore to achieve the transformation. Despite being a villain in the past, Vegeta’s training and newfound powers allow him to become a Super Saiyan and demonstrate his power to the shocked Z Fighters. Vegeta realizes that being true to himself and having a calm heart filled with clear traits, even if it is pure evil, can still lead to unlocking the Super Saiyan transformation.
Although it is well established at this point Dragon ball continuity (and over the last few decades) that vegetable may go Super Saiyan, that hasn’t always been the case, and his inability to do so has nothing to do with his power level. However, due to a flaw in Dragon Ball lore, Vegeta was able to achieve that transformation and wield a level of power that he never would have otherwise.
Vegeta was introduced in Dragon Ball chapter 204 by Akira Toriyama, and while he may be a heroic Z Fighter now, he was originally a vile villain who nearly wiped out all life on Earth. Planet Earth. Vegeta is the leader of the last surviving Saiyans. Their mission is to travel from planet to planet, eliminate native life there and then sell the empty world to the highest bidder. Not only does Vegeta do this without fail, but he actually enjoys killing people he considers weaker than him.
Readers get to see Vegeta’s villainy at its maximum as the Saiyan fights against helpless innocents on Planet Namek in search of the Dragon Balls. Just to get a dragon ball, Vegeta wiped out an entire Namek village without a trace of remorse. This brutal brutality proved that Vegeta’s heart was filled with pure evil – something that initially prevented him from reaching his full potential.
Vegeta can only become a Super Saiyan because he is pure evil
In Dragon Ball chapter 319 by Akira Toriyama, Goku first unlocks his Super Saiyan form after witnessing Krillin’s death at the hands of Frieza. Goku explains that he was able to achieve this feat because he is a Saiyan with a pure heart awakened by rage. When Frieza heard this, he laughed to himself as he finally understood why Vegeta was never able to achieve Super Saiyan even after all those years of working under him. Vegeta’s heart is not pure so he can never become a Super Saiyan. That is until the Saiyan Prince found a loophole that worked for him.
In Dragon Ball chapter 343 by Akira Toriyama, Vegeta arrives at the scene of the battle between the Z Fighters and Androids after training for three years to prepare for the arrival of the villains following the warning he received from Future Trunks . Once there, Vegeta wasted no time showing off his newfound powers – including the ability to become a Super Saiyan. As the other Z Fighters were shocked by Vegeta’s transformation because they knew the only reason Goku was able to unlock it was because of his pure heart as well as his unparalleled strength, Vegeta replied: “But my heart is calm and pure. Pure evil!”.
Original Dragon Ball lore states that a Saiyan must have a pure heart to become a Super Saiyan, but Vegeta realized that it doesn’t matter how “pure” his heart is. Essentially, Vegeta figured out that the trick to becoming a Super Saiyan is to be yourself, no matter how despicable that self is. As long as a Saiyan knows who they are and has a calm heart filled with whatever their defining characteristics are, mixed with the raw power to actually perform the transformation, then they can go Super Saiyan-Prove that vegetable icon unlocked Dragon ball transformation because of a single flaw in established lore.
